Who was talking about HFCS in their store bought something-salad the other day? Yeah. Harris Teeter egg salad has sugar in it. I just don't even know. Sugar. In egg salad. On the other hand, their pork roast is delicious. It probably has sugar in it, too. But it's good!

The sushi place on campus has HFCS mixed into the rice.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Doesn't sushi rice typically have sugar in it?

Isn't sushi rice traditionally seasoned with a sweetened vinegar and a little salt?

I mean, I'd prefer sugar. But I'm not surprised it's got something.

Oops, I forgot the S.

Into the plain rice that you can just eat with your meal? Or in the rice they use to make the sushi? And even then, why not just sugar?

But really, why all the sweetening? It's like some dark conspiracy wherein we area all getting extra, useless, yucky tasting in the case of sugared egg salad, calories to fatten us up for the slaughter. Or perhaps I'm overreacting slightly to my disappointment in the egg salad, which is one of my favorite comfort foods. Either way, sugar wrong.

ETA: sushi rice sugar x-post!

Sushi x-post. I suppose that is inevitable with us.

I don't like the idea of sweetened egg salad. I also don't like the idea of celery in it because I hate celery. Not that it's the topic of discussion, I just hate celery.

Oh, that's probably true. Maybe not the slaughter part, but the rest.

It's OK, extra facts about Cass are welcome. I will deal with celery in it, though I prefer it without. Mayo and some fancy mustard is all I like in my egg salad. No extra sugar.

ETA: OK, I re-read the ingredients, and the sugar is, in fact, part of the mayo, which, my regular mayo has sugar in it, too. I guess it's not extra sugar, per se. But. The egg salad is sweet, which is what compelled me to look at the ingredients in the first place, so I'm going to say that their mayo is too sweet. So there.

They probably add the syrup to the rice to make it sticky. I'm guessing they don't special order Japanese sticky rice.

Our wings are not tired.

No sugar in my egg salad. Celery is welcome, as well as horseradish, and olives. Or just plain eggs and mayo. Just no sweetener please.
