No studying? Damn! Next thing they'll tell me is I'll have to eat jelly doughnuts or sleep with a supermodel to get things done around here. I ask you, how much can one man give?

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

I am still watching Spooks, but very very slowly, so I'm in like series 4.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

le sigh. Yeah, if I was a better person, more patient, less short-fusey it'd be okayish. But, I am not a poker-faced person. I have tried. Deep calming breaths make me look more pissed off than I actually am.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

So, if I end up looking at a car from Craigslist, how do I go about ensuring the car is actually in good condition? I don't know crap about cars.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

take it to a mechanic, ita. have the mechanic look it over and certify it is in good condition.

Is that standard? For the seller to let you take the car? How much would a mechanic usually charge for such a once-over?

Who is the mechanic who fixed Allyson's car? Get recs from friends for reputable independent mechanics who will do a once over and estimate. Only agree to look at if if your mechanic can check it out. (My pricey but excellent guys charge $50-$90 for that, but will also give you negotiating points and saved me 3K for that cost.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Is that standard?

Yep.

For the seller to let you take the car?

My last seller came with me to the garage.

How much would a mechanic usually charge for such a once-over?

Our mechanic did it for free to engender business. Others might charge a small amount. Set it up beforehand. Mostly they're going to check for emissions and look for leaks and signs that there might be bigger issues.

brenda, you've been in my thoughts today. Are things still feeling too big?

ita, sorry about the car. We've had good experiences at Carmax, though (both buying and selling).

I sat in an hour long after school meeting About Nothing. I'm kinda annoyed.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Thanks, Kat. It really helped getting some of that stuff out and talking about it. I got through yesterday much better than anticipated, and actually had a pretty good day. I'm taking tomorrow and Monday off, which will also help a lot.
