Spike: At least give me Wesley's office since he's gone. Angel: He's not gone. He's on a leave of absence. Spike: Yeah, right. Boo-hoo. Thought he killed his bloody father. Try staking your mother when she's coming on to you! Harmony: Well…that explains a lot.

'Destiny'

Natter 69: Practically names itself.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

I would say "the data are," but I'm pedantic.

Huh. I need to order some toner. I would have already done this, if I had had a sit-down with my boss. Oh, wait, I am my boss.

OK, I have ONE MORE TASK on my onerous big important report. Only, it's one task that relates to a) a major donor and b) my board treasurer and c) the owner of a cpa firm. So, like, I probably should have done it before the day of the deadline of the report. I think I'm good with what I've done, but I want affirmation.

Why don't people give me grades anymore? I could study for those, and if I did badly, work to improve! Job performance, not so much.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I went w/Strunk and White, which goes with plural.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

You have to get on top of this toner issue immediately with actionable dates.

Oh god, I just hyperventilated reading that.

Hi, Buffistas. I've been lurky.

I've had engineers insist that data is singular. As in "this batch of data here". I've come to the point where I just don't give a damn anymore. My boss tells me to give them whatever makes them happy, and so I do.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

See, I know that datum is technically the singular for data, but in that sentence, if you used a pronoun, you would use "it" (you would not refer to data as "they"), as in "It is augmented," and the sentence would be correct.

"Has the data been augmented?"

"Yes, it has" is correct; "Yes, they have" is not?

Right? Or do I have to give up my life as a proofreader?!

English is so weird. Stupid contradictions.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I've had engineers insist that data is singular. As in "this batch of data here".

Well, in that case it's the batch that's singular.

I'm glad there's a data plural/singular argument. I felt really dumb asking.

No, the pronoun would be "they."
