Apart from singers, those with romantic involvement with girls in the band and members of all-boy groups, can you think of even one reasonably well known male rock musician? (I can think of only one, but even that is something of a special case.)
So true. And I'm pretty sure, according to Bullshit List Hour criteria, that your special case must be eliminated from the "reasonably well-known" category.
Why?
Because.
Oh yeah. So wait. The rock star can't be a singer? Brane broke.
Pshaw. You know singers aren't real musicians. They just stand up there at the front. And all-girl bands don't count because they obviously only used gender as a criteria and not talent or they would have had boys in the band, because they're better. And of course you know women get in the band because they fuck the drummer. That's the only way a man could possibly tolerate a woman in the band.
And if you're going to go with Smashing Pumpkins, well, D'arcy and Melissa were only bass players. Bass players don't count because they're not awesome shredders like guitarists. Lead guitarists. Sheila E. doesn't count because Prince is pop, and also drummers don't count. Lita Ford, Kelley Deal, Carrie Brownstein. I'm sure there's some really excellent reason they don't count.
Says the vocalist, who learned to play bass for the band in which her husband was the keyboardist.
Who said that, Allyson?
Random dick on a message board mansplainng a terrible analogy about why there aren't more women speaking at philosophy conferences. It's just that there aren't any women philosophers! Like there aren't any women rock musicians! If you squint out of one eye, and then poke that eye out.
Oh, right! Doesn't count!
It's just that there aren't any women philosophers!
Also, there are no female comedians because women aren't funny.
Wow, really? That wasn’t the case in the public school system in CT (or in my independent school here.) That blows if you actually get called since my experience has been that the judge could care less that I teach.
Usually you get postponed until a school break and then you go. On your time instead of school time.
A woman on my AP Litserv just had a preemie when she was visiting CA so her baby is in the hospital, unexpectedly, in a different state. And she posts asking for help with her AP English Language class. I wrote back to her and said that I can't help with AP Language stuff but I'd ask a colleague, but I'd be happy to lend an ear on baby-in-the-NICU stuff. Poor thing.
