Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

I think they're on another Egypt unit at school.

They do seem to inspire. My daughter's sixth grade class did a unit and she ended up with the nickname Neferlex for a while.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Do they cover other ancient areas, such as Sumeria and the Assyrians? I remember geeking out over cuneiform writing in fifth grade. That was my first big exposure to archaeology as a whole, and completely grabbed me.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Happy birthday, Sail! I've kind of had my head up my ass today. I apologise. Just trying to get shit sorted out, as well as do a full day's worth of wok.

But stuff is getting done. Dazed as I am. It's getting done.

And none of us deserving the cruelty or the grace -- Leonard Cohen

Damn, ita, the universe needs to give you a break, stat.

Happy Birthday, Sail!

Glad to hear an update, Maria, even if it is just a holding pattern.

smonster, I'm so glad you've found a place to live! Getting away from that slumlord is definitely happy-making news!

From way back: glad you and the fam survived the move, flea.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

I have to remember to introduce him to Jake von Slatt at the con.

I am totally not surprised you know him. His projects are seriously cool.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Yeah, car's officially totalled. Worth $5K, with $7K in repairs.

Does anyone ever just take the check and spend the difference out of pocket to fix the car?

I don't want a monthly fucking car payment. My monthly car payment is spent on pain management, for fuck's sake.

I had a 2000 VW Jetta VR6. What's the equivalent of that on the road right now?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I think my parents did, when I totalled my mom's car in high school -- it was way cheaper to fix than to get a new car.

Because books.

I would do that, ita. Absolutely.
