I don't like vampires. I'm gonna take a stand and say they're not good.

Wow.

That's certainly something.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Okay, so I am reading a UK news blog and reading the comments because they routinely make me laugh and laugh. I came across this comment:

I heard that he was caught swan upping in an inappropriate skiff.

And I just about died laughing. I had NO idea what this person was saying, but it sounded like a crazy euphemism for something.

I googled it and for heaven sake, "swan upping" is something real! Damn. Much less funny.

Trust my rage

I don't know how to adjust the scope of the modifier for truth justice and the Buffista way

This made me laugh.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

If she carries to term, she will have been pregnant with all the children combined a total of 15 years. I don't even know what to say to that.

The idea of being pregnant for 15 years makes me want to cry. Literally.

Heh.

I think this misses the point as well - protesting "economic injustice" is a fairly meaningless thing to do unless you are also proposing some kind of concrete action. (Which IS happening, to some extent, but every single "The mainstream media doesn't get it!" article I've seen about OWS just puts its foot in its mouth by responding with "What's so hard to understand about this movement? They want JUSTICE!" Saying "The mainstream media is so stupid, they can't even understand this totally vague undefined abstract idea!" is NOT HELPFUL, BLOGS.)

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I got from skiff to assuming they were legitimate swans, but upping? Hells, that needed googling. And that does not parse as the President's English on first read, nosirree Bob.

Amy, yeah, I'll do it from home. They asked for a picture of me in it, so it's one of my krav profile pics. The one with the pink wraps. Get to know the real me, other Business System Analysts.

Weirdly, I have finished writing the presentation. I got the word that it's supposed to be 20 minutes, not 60, so I'm probably quite over, in fact. Oh. I feel slightly at a loss with myself, because it was supposed to be much of my morning.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I disagree. I think the value of the Occupy movement has been to change the narrative in the media. That's its biggest impact and where it's useful. The media and the politicians were not even acknowledging that (as one sign had it) "This shit's fucked up!"

The changes won't come from protesters' action points. It's about creating a new narrative and political pressure.

It's exactly like the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War Protests in that way.

an overblown libretto and a sumptuous score/ could never contain the contradictions I adore

So did any Phillyistas know that there's a warehouse in your fair city that sells vintage clothing in bulk? Guys, I want to go to there. In fact, I'm thinking road trip, a few Saturdays from now. And Mr. Flowersocks might be coming with me.

I am boggled by anti-vaxers, as usual. My response always ends up boiling down to "Science! It works, bitches!" but I know that's not helpful.

Amy - Nov 08, 2011 7:18:07 am PST #5367 of 30001
Because books.

Holli, I saw that in your LJ! I'd love to go, but I don't really want to buy in bulk, you know?

No, it's not. The Vietnam war protests had a set of specific goals - end the draft, end the war. Civil Rights protests were designed with specific actions aimed at specific policies and/or laws. (Sit-ins, for example.)

The Occupy movement is moving in that direction, and will probably get there. But they're not there yet, and the reporting on ALL sides has been nothing but atrocious and unhelpful.

Now tagless for your comfort.

If she carries to term, she will have been pregnant with all the children combined a total of 15 years. I don't even know what to say to that.

The fact that she has not gone through menopause makes me deny the existence of a benevolent god.
