I spotted several reporters on campus today. The sexual abuse story. [link] I'm not sure exactly what they're trying to find out on campus -- pretty much, they seem to just be interviewing students who don't know any more about what's going on than anybody else does. The reporters are also completely ignoring the Occupy protest, which is going on about ten feet from where the reporters are standing, which is at least somewhat amusing. (I'm sure the general feeling among out-of-town reporters is something like, "You're occupying a student lounge? With couches and heat and a coffee shop and a food court? Whatever.")

Isn't Ryanair the airline that recently flew with a window "fixed" with duct tape? (Leading to an emergency landing since apparently duct tape isn't the best way to "fix" a window ON AN AIRPLANE.)
The first time I heard of Ryanair was several years ago, when either they first started or they were started some big new publicity campaign, where they offered free airfare to anyone named Ryan. Apparently they hadn't actually bothered to figure out how many people there are in Ireland named Ryan, and they ended up losing a bunch of money on it. I think they'd expected to get money from all the other people traveling with the Ryans.

I just mentioned it on Twitter, and the foreign rights person at my agency was like, "ENGLISH LANGUAGE, I HOPE?!" Meaning unlicensed translations are a bad thing, but I assume it was in English, so. Yeah, pretty cool!

Someone should tell those reporters that the point of occupying is not actually suffering. I've been to demonstrations outdoors in beautiful spring whether that included picnic food, plumbed bathrooms in the park, and performance by celebrity musicians. No one thought that made the demonstration less valid. Occupying even a very comfortable place sharing a space with dozens of others for days on end represents a hell of a lot more effort than that Sunday in the park which got a fair amount of coverage.
