"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I just had a couple of little kids. However, the teenagers with them were taking large handfuls of candy too.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Still a couple late ones coming by -- I'd guesstimate 25 kids in little bunches. Some surprisingly good makeup, and one really great homemade costume -- kid in a bathrobe with a "shower" over his head like a giant halo.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

What's wrong with a brown paper lunch bag for trick or treating?

The Alters had a theme this year.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

No kids here. I kind of miss 'em.

That's why I refuse to call myself a Wiccan. I'm a hedge witch, dammit. I borrow from a lot of belief and ritual systems.

Yup. In fact, I doubt I'm even that formal.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I just feel like it isn't really big or sturdy enough. Also: no effort went into the trick/treat bag at all.

At least use an old pillowcase. I thought that was the default. Isn't it?

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

What's wrong with a brown paper lunch bag for trick or treat

I'm assuming that was the full extent of the costume.

Yeah, I guess I just don't see the bag as important enough to make an effort for. I mean, I'd rather a kid used something they already had than buying some cheap plastic pumpkin at Target the night before.

[eta: Oh, if that was the entire costume then that's a problem. ]

I might be wrong, but I have seen it happen.

Because books.

The trend here with the tweens and teens is apparently to wear your backpack backward, open, and slap on some kind of makeup or a mask. I'm unamused.

The little ones are, of course, adorable.
