If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Shocked and appalled, ita !. Also suspicious. There was a scam wherein a guy would call pretending to do a survey, ask women (among other survey questions) if they were single, and if the answer was yes, he would call back the next night to "thank" them for taking the survey and incidentally, are you home alone tonight?

My old boss had a temp job once cold calling people and asking about their security habits. Did they lock their doors? Windows? Have an alarm system? Oh, what kind? etc. So completely scammy and stalkery. Her employer: the Alexandria, VA, police department.

Hi ita's sister! I'm shocked at how long it's been since a bunch of us went out to brunch in DC. How the heck am I old enough to have been an adult that long ago!?!?

Jessica, I don't get it: they gave you a gift last year, and this year they want you to give them back the gift they gave you in order for them to loan you something that is only to be used for work purposes?

That strikes me as... not a reward. And what would you be required to do if the old iPad had been lost or damaged? What if you have porn on it?

That all seems really sketchy to me.

W/rt ita's sister's problem, I bet the project was student-run, student-designed, and never got anywhere near an IRB. Either that, or it's a complete scam with no actual academic association. Very very weird.

Because books.

Hi, ita's sister!

That's entrapment into career-ending situations. WTF.

God, this. My mouth actually dropped open at ita's first post. So frigging wrong wrong WRONG.

YAY, JILLI!

I survived Career Day, no one fell asleep (noticeably) or walked out, and I managed to ferret out a bunch of newbie writers, not all of them girls either. One boy has self-published the first in his 24-book fantasy series. He was sort of a trip.

I also managed to work Supernatural into the discussion with both groups. Yay?

Well, I can't imagine why they would do that outside of classwork? Student-instigated? Seems odd. But if as part of a class, the professor should know the IRB requirements and should be censured/disciplined for not enforcing them.
