Now hold on, I'm gonna press the right pedal harder. I expect us to accelerate.

Crash with friends, Allyson! Also, I forgot to wish you a happy birthday although it sounds like it's not. Maybe a day with the flea-family would improve things?

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Trying to find a way to escape without causing a scene. Thank you for the birthday wishes. Really means a thing. Kept me from being completely ragey.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

My dad called me into the office this morning to show me a bill for my student loans.

That's lame. Sorry Allyson's dad, but that's a parenting foul.

Suck it up and keep your word and quit bitching. You should have paid for the whole fucking college nut anyway.

Definitely a parenting foul! Shame on him.

I don't know if this is cheering news, but apparently they've turned that Christian Bale movie Newsies into a Broadway show. And the dancing is apparently awesome.

Thrive to spite them

Happy Birthday Allyson!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Oh, no, Mr. Allyson, you don't get to do that. No takebacks in the educating-your-kids game, and NOT ON HER BIRTHDAY.

If you can get out, get out, and when you can come back to where we actually wish you a happy birthday, please do so.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

You should have paid for the whole fucking college nut anyway.

I don't know about that, but keep your deal! Sheesh.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Trying to find a way to escape without causing a scene.

Man, screw that. If the escape is a success then the scene will happen in your absence anyway, so you won't have to witness it or deal with it (at least not on your damn birthday). Just go.

eta: And maybe a scene wouldn't be so bad for them. My mom always told me that her relationship with her own mother didn't start to seriously improve until Nana stepped way over the line and my mom said, "I may be your daughter, but I'm a grown human being and I don't need to tolerate someone treating me like that," and cleared out and stayed away until Nana made the first overture.

Some parents need a loud, clear, "There's the bullshit line and you stepped over it, and I'm done until you walk it back" walkout to make the relationship happen on your terms rather than theirs.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

Man, Allyson, that just sucks. Fail, Allyson's dad. Fail.

Hil went to see Newsies last year, IIRC, and said it was great. I would totally go see it.

information libertarian

My father implied that he was paying for his contribution to my college (I paid some too, and so did my mother, and I had loans), but I later found out that my grandmother gave him the money for it. I mean, my mother's father helped her out with her share of my tuition, but a) I knew about it and b) my mother taught high school, while my father is a doctor. An extremely cheap-ass doctor.

Also, didn't you graduate from college like, 15 years ago? And are supporting yourself as a gainfully employed and all-around grownup adult person? NOW he makes a fuss?
