In re misspelled signs - years ago I worked for a PR firm; it was long enough ago that there were no PowerPoint presentations, we had professionally prepared placards. Big ones - about two feet by three feet. We did the copy, sent them out. We were representing some group advocating butter rather than margarine, so the word "margarine" got used a LOT. When we got the placards - at the last minute, it being typical PR production - we discovered that the company had oh so helpfully gone through and corrected our spelling to "margerine". So, at the very last minute, we had to go through with white-out and a marker correcting their corrections.

Speaking of house cleaners, I actually do want to get one. My mother won't stop nagging, and I figure I should actually do it and not lie, because my house could use a professional deep clean.

So...how does that work in the first world? I mean, I guess I can find a service from Angie's list or if anyone local has good referrals, but what are the logistics of it? Are you usually here when they clean? How does it all work?

When I had house help in New York, I was home for the first visit to show where things were and what I would like done. After that, I was rarely there.

After I get back to debt load zero, I should really look into having someone come in every couple of weeks to mop and dust and seriously clean the bathrooms. That would probably be less about 4 hours of work, so only 8 a month.

Since you may have issues with what they use to clean that will be something you need to talk about, and/or supply. Otherwise, s/he generally brings everything s/he will need. You'll also need to discuss what happens when you need to be home and s/he is scheduled to come - if you can't have them cleaning around you, then you will need to know about cancellations and when you can do so without penalty.

My house cleaner generally spends about 5 hours at my house.

Dad has housecleaners come every two weeks. They dust mop vacuum clean coumter tops and bathrooms and a few other things. Theu use his supplies and he is never there. They go in and clean and leave notes of they need more sjpplies and he leaves them a check I was lived with him for a while and was there once. They said they felt bad taking his money because je would clean up before they came over.

Yeah, I don't know if my cleaning stuff is the most effective, but I do at least know it's stuff I can tolerate. I might not have remembered that complication until it was too late.
