The NY Post has the tackiest front page today. I just cannot get over it. For those who don't want to see the bloody face (perhaps digitally composed, I don't know) of Khadafy, I'll spare you.
The headline:
"Khadafy killed by Yankee Fan" with subhead "Gunman had more hits than A-Rod" and there is a young man in a Yankee cap holding a gun in a separate smaller photo.

TV is fine. None of mine were really interested until two-ish anyway.
Current research suggests that before age 2, a TV is just a big glowy blurry box, so kids will stare at it, but educational programming is a waste of time. 2 is the age by which most kids will actually be able to see the images onscreen.

Yeah, I tried a Baby Einstein DVD with Sara pre- age one, I think, and she had zero interest in it.
I encourage my girl to settle in for some Sesame Street in the evenings so that I can make dinner, or do whatever I need to do in 50 minutes to keep the house running. It is sometimes-single-parent's best friend. (I love Elmo, but Baby Bear is nails on a chalkboard for me.)
My DH will probably get in about 2:30 a.m., and be home until he leaves on Wednesday for Sri Lanka, hurrah! and boo!
The thing in the article I saw was saying that adults talk to the kid less when they are watching TV -- aimed at either the adults or the kids -- and that parents talking to littles is what helps them develop. Which makes sense to me, and isn't really about TV. If more parents left the kid sitting in the crib while they read a book, it would probably lead to the same kind of thing.
I'd be curious to know if there's a difference between TV and computer screens, in terms of visibility. If the TV is that much brighter (and harder for babies to focus on), should we all be using PBSKids.org as our I-need-a-fucking-shower-babysitter instead of Sesame Street?
I know that's one place I didn't fall down. I was so bored, I talked to them as babies constantly. A fly on the wall would have thought I was insane.
