My sister takes metoprolol for a heart condition. Is that drug related to propanolol (the drug in the reducing-racism article)? Teppy? Not that my sister has racism issues, just curious about the fear-reducing thing. She could use her anxiety levels lowered.
IIRC, metoprolol is related. And in that vein, the blood pressure drug atenolol purportedly reduces anxiety, particularly *social* anxiety. I learned this from a medical professional at one of Tim's ADHD support meetings (well, the presentation part). My BP has been stable on the same drug for years, but I'm toying with the idea of asking my Awesome Doc if I could switch. I would kill or die to reduce this social anxiety.
Ooh, that is super hard, Jesse, since singing is so emotional to begin with.
Yeah, it took me years to be able to sing the descant on O Come, All Ye Faithful, because I think it's just so beautiful! Der.
Are you on BP meds, Steph? I just got prescribed a beta blocker in addition to the other, somewhat ineffective, meds.
Are you on BP meds, Steph?
I am. I'm on a low dose of benazepril (generic of Lotensin), which is an ACE inhibitor. Atenolol and the other -olol drugs are beta-blockers.
I'm on amlodopine/atorvastatin and now I get a beta blocker. Sigh. "You need to reduce stress in your life," says my doctor. Uh. Oh. Sure.
I am on a diruretic and atorvastatin for high blood pressure. But I have serious white coat syndrome. A nice, non-judging doctor is the difference between a good reading and a bad one.
I didn't know atorvastatin had blood pressure-lowering properties, since it's a cholesterol drug.
Hmm. Don't tell my boss.
Aaaah, wrong drug... It's vasotec. I am on the statin too, jsut forgot which was which.
Hmm.... Right? Why am I on a statin, Mr. Doc? When I first started this I was on a low dose amlodipine benazepril which didn't work. Then the amlodipine atorvastatin at a higher dose (which is weird because when he prescribed it, he hadn't done my cholesterol bloodwork which he said came back good, but shows my cholesterol is high).
ARGH.
Maybe I should just cut back on the cheese and eat out less and work out more.
In serious and depressing news, I think I'm going to be pink slipped this year. I have over 10 years with the district, but they are pink slipping 11,000 people. I'm sure I'm in that list.
Oh Kat, that's terrible. Is that 11,000 all teachers? Fuck.
