You like ships. You don't seem to be looking at the destinations. What you care about is the ships, and mine's the nicest.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

At least they had good, rich, *loved* lives. They did good. Their owners will miss them sorely, no doubt.

Yes, this. Farewell, sweet doggies.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Hayden, congrats on new employment!

I have no Al Capone stories

My grandfather was working as a mechanic during that era, and according to a family story, Al Capone came through town one night and his car broke down, and he showed up at the garage where Granddad was working late, and Granddad fixed his car and he gave him some big tip. No idea what Capone was doing in rural Tennesee, and probably Granddad thought it best not to ask.

I do really want to go to Rabat, Morocco, and see the old quarter of Salee, where the Salee Rovers sailed from and where Murat Reis, ne Jan Jansen of Harleem of the Netherlands, ended up an Admiral of the Sultan's Fleet.

Now there is the making of a fine historical novel, my friend.

Good-bye, sweet doggies. Too many pets lost this year, already.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Oh, poor sweet doggies. Thinking of Trudy and of your sister, Tom. It's hard to lose a long-loved pet.

heart disease drug may combat racism?

egad, don't read the comments, they are full of virulent racism. Clearly the implication that racism can be reduced is just too threatening for some.

Although my take on the study is that it is unlikely that this drug would actually work as a medication to reduce racism and more likely that the study illustrates some of the unconscious pathways that lead to racism.

brillig

Now there is the making of a fine historical novel, my friend.

I have thought that many a time, including the story of his son who came to America and got married on the ship to a former barmaid from Amsterdam, who was fired because she was too friendly with the patrons of the taverns. They were sued many a time by the well-behaved citizens of New Amsterdam for being lewd and troublesome.

Ditto.

So, over the last 3 days I've put in 30 hours at work. Today was a 9 hour day. I have put away the work laptop and will not open it until Monday. I will strive not to check work e-mail from my personal computer.

Also accomplished today - 3 loads of laundry - all folded and put away, bed remade with fresh sheets, my room and bathroom cleaned, and I have a crock pot meal plotted to put together in the morning.

I've already filled out my pre-surgery forms and talked with the nurse. I have a couple of books to read instead of trying to DO anything the first day after (thanks for that reminder, Javachik). Can it be time to get this over with already?

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

My sister takes metoprolol for a heart condition. Is that drug related to propanolol (the drug in the reducing-racism article)? Teppy? Not that my sister has racism issues, just curious about the fear-reducing thing. She could use her anxiety levels lowered.

lol

Good luck, Suzi! Don't do anything afterward!

Suzi, you sound uber prepared. Sending good vibes for any pre-surgery anxiety, as well as good outcome vibes for the surgery itself.

Punishingly Intricate

aww Ricky looks like a sweetheart and I know Dallas was a great companion for Trudy. They were lucky dogs to have hooked up with the people they did.

...

My great-grandfather was not involved in booze running, I'm pretty sure. He didn't drink at all. But he was quite the bookie about town. My uncle wrote a story about him and his world recently. [link]
