I guess from having grown up in Indiana and South Dakota, I'm way more comfortable with the idea of tornadoes, where you usually have a little warning and it's more likely to hit a street or two than the whole city. Earthquakes freak me out. No warning! Sudden! Could make your whole state fall into the ocean!! Especially now that I'm a homeowner--how would the insurance companies deal with that?! The economy?

Well, based on how things went down in NO after Katrina, I'm going to go with the answer of "screwing policy holders over."

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.
I don't have a link handy, but Bald Eagle Cam is back, with eggs!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.
I just realized part of why my new coworker is so appealing: he kind of looks like a grown-up Kurt Hummel. Aw! Grown up Kurt!

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"
I can't decide if this belongs in Movies or Boxed Set, so Natter it is - anyone who loved Inception or The Matrix needs to run out RIGHT NOW and get World on a Wire and watch it and then come back. I'll wait.
It's a German sci-fi miniseries from 1973, and it is wonderful. I don't know how the Wachowski's managed to snag a copy back in the 90's (since it was only just now rediscovered and released on DVD/Blu-Ray), but obviously they did because there's a bit of mise en scene in the Matrix that cannot possibly be a coincidence.
Go. NOW.
Coincidentally, a copy of this I ordered arrived just this weekend. I'm looking forward to watching it. I love Criterion.
