Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Just got my first paycheck post-raise. Difference is $42 dollars more. Whee. Sadly, I know a couple people got even less.

So, you guys have 401K taken out of your bonuses? I don't usually get a bonus! I don't know how this works!

Since my bonus is taxed at a higher rate than my regular salary, I've been slinging my bonus into my pre-tax 401K. I take full advantage of the company match. And I don't spend it if I don't see it.

But I spent most of my 20s doing little in the way of retirement planning, so I'm trying to make up for lost time.

Yeah, my bonus gets paid out next week and I don't put any of it to 401K, though possibly I should. Last year I used some for a Roth, so I might do that again. And probably some credit card or car payments, and I still have to come up with something fun.

It's withheld at a higher rate (this happens with overtime pay too) but end of year is taxed the same.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Ah. I could never get past my ball of rage at how much of my money I wasn't getting to grasp this concept.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

someone who has not even met me, just called me a diminuative in an email. I told him that was risky behaviour and I would call him Bob when we met. He then sent me a message and signed it Fred, so I responded and signed it Emily.

I think I found a friend.

btw I totally have a new office crush. Geekily adorbs and has tried multiple times to be helpful when I am having a problem. yay for office cutieheads.

The IRS treats each paycheck as representative of what you will make all year, and guestimates at your ultimate tax liability based on that. So if you have say an extra $250 from overtime on a single check, they withhold on the assumption that your annual income will be $6000 higher. Next check, no overtime, back to your regular withholding. It feels hinky, but it's intended to make sure you don't have a huge liability at year end.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Yikes. Big, badass storms with tornadoes all across southeastern Indiana/western and northern Kentucky/Cincinnati and moving east. Definite tornadoes in Indiana; so far 4 reported dead. Whole, whole, WHOLE lot of destruction reported in Kentucky. The airport is closed.

As for me, the damn storm swung around kind of south of the western/central Cincinnati area. All I got was light rain and some thunder. I dodged a HUGE bullet. And AFAIK, flea and family are fine, too.

Wow.
