"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

It's a strange world. On Saturday, they had a get-together at a bar for the main book festival volunteers. I got in a conversation with a woman who was also named Virginia. There are few enough Virginias that that was worth talking about, which led to a long conversation, mostly about the digital divide, I got her e-mail address to send her a link to Seanan McGuire's post about it. She googled me and found that I had left my job as a university publications adviser the year before she started working on the school's student newspaper, so, she said, "it just took another 27 years for us to meet."

The network died at work sometime around 11. I found things to do until a little after 3. That was...dull. My keyboard is now clean, though.

The state of my house is stressing me out. Yes, I got the desk cleared off. But then the cat barfed randomly (and apparently was travelling) and I know I can get it to order by Wednesday night. But can't DO it until Wednesday.

Wow, David, that does sound kind of creepy!

It's good to see that my issues aren't the kids' issues. I mean, I know that, but it is good to see it. And leaving the house was the right thing to do, even though I don't like how it makes me feel.

Glad things are at least So Far So Good, Stephanie! Keeping my fingers crossed it just gets better.

I got home from my weekend at noon, answered the phone from my boss, and then kept working for three hours...I'm totally justified in taking a break and watching some of last week's TV that's on my TiVo, right?

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

My folks are on their way to Florida. They got up at stupid o'clock, as they usually do. I didn't hear them, but Nova was meowing before the alarm.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Stephanie, I am with meara in hoping that things get easier.

ita, since you had such fun grading your sisters papers, want to grade some of mine? I'm a 100% overwhelmed.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Kat, I've decided my shadowy speciality is non-mainstream gender identities and sexual orientations. Because, compared to your average Jamaican university student, my mind has got a lot of that stuff in it. My sister was feeling a bit nervous at the end of the stay about having my help, but I only marked the five about that topic, and steered clear about what I consider more typically anthropological subjects, since what do I know about the Kayapo, or culturally illicit income in East Africa, or agency vs structure? Well, actually, I have some opinions about agency vs structure, but I think they're informed by being very privileged, so I should just keep them to myself.

Every now and again I keep getting password reset emails for the gmail address ita.hackerfb. Its alternate backup address is itaitaita, and I have the account ita.ita.ita, so I get them. Which is a big d'oh on the part of this oh-so-crafty hacker person.

Sadly, for my overly curious self, they don't actually have any emails in that address. Just a history of web searches, all of which have to do with...tada...hacking facebook.

But now I've coopted the email address and changed their security question, so they can't have it back. So there.

Yeah, I'm petty, but they're stupid.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Yeah, I'm petty, but they're stupid.

Also? They're remarkably easily hacked.

not your mom's socks.

I kind of love ita ! right now. But there is no point at which I didn't.

Ok, people. My workshop roommate has just - I can't even. Email venting that ... oi. I had such a different experience than she did. And I spent a lot of time trying to help her. And I need to stop helping her now. Because I am about two replies from becoming the target of her frustration.

Sox, step away from the Other People's Drama. It'll just get you all stinky and gooey.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Sox, was that the workshop with my friend from Dallas?
