Spike's Bitches 47: Someone Dangerous Could Get In

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

There are no cookie sales within 50 miles of my zip code? How can that be?

That cookie finder is just for Little Brownie Bakers. The Girl Scouts near you might sell from ABC Bakers. (There are two different companies that make Girl Scout cookies, and each council decides which one to sell from.)

(I happen to know the names of the Girl Scout cookie companies off the top of my head because I've been trying to find someone selling from ABC Bakers, which have some vegan ones, and I've only found Little Brownie Bakers.)

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Hil, I found locations in my area using [link] so it must include ABC bakies.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Ok, laundry is in, dog is brushed, kindling is gathered, birdfeeder snow shield is improvised, chargers are charging, shovel & scraper and broom are in the airlock, fire is built, and I am tired.

I am ready for this snowstorm, bring it.

Which means it'll all be rain or it'll skirt us.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

I hadn't heard of the Trayvon Martin case until it was mentioned here. When I found out what the fuss was about, I just cried. Sign online petition, retweet, share on Facebook - and feeling inadequate because it feels like just a drop in the bucket compared to what needs to be done. May there be enough drops together to flood that young man's family with support and break the dam holding back justice.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

I really hope so, Andi.

Oh, productivity-wise - I did work on everything on my list, even if I didn't finish everything, and using a generous definition of "work on" for the laundry, since I got no forwarder than bringing the intended load down one flight of stairs. Still, the bathroom floor looks tons better.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

I was not productive unless you count sleep. Which I'm going to. But I'm so proud of those of you who were! Took a friend in from out of town and her husband to one of my favorite places, and don't you know my *other* out of town friends were there (they introduced me to it originally), so we all sat at a bunch of tables together. I mostly talked to the friend I came with and her husband, because I hadn't seen her in seven years.

The Trayvon Martin thing fills me with rage, too. I have yet to do anything about it. My god, the racism is THAT FUCKING BLATANT and nothing happens? IDEK. So horrifying and depressing.

Liese, I wish you enough storm to make your prep worthwhile, but not so much that you are in any danger.

OMG, cat yowling outside. Surely it can't be the same cat, right? I may have to go on a wild cat chase to make sure it's not stuck or something.

Looked for kitty, can't find it. Just heard it again, dammit.

Signed Trayvon Martin petition and reposted link on fb.

Bed now.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

The waiting is nutty. The original forecast called for rain to start here at ten, but it didn't, and now the warning doesn't officially start until 6 am. And the numbers just keep going up and up. It started saying 3-5 inches for our elevation, but 10-22 for the White Mountains. Then it was 5-10, then 8-12 and now it's 10-18, specifically for my elevation in my town. They're calling for well over two feet at the neighboring town.

I think what's happening is that the system is larger and moving slower than expected, so it may be colder when it hits here and drop more snow than rain. It's still 49 here now. Was beautiful and sunny all day.

Our wings are not tired.

You guys, thanks. And yes, JZ, it DOES matter that a white woman in SF CARES because honestly it isn't until the white folks give a damn that necessary change takes place, however excruciatingly unfair that is. And you're exactly right about Emmett. Emmett going to the store to buy Skittles for Matilda and an iced tea for himself is EXACTLY the sort of kid Trayvon was, except that Emmett doesn't have to worry that some godforsaken unhinged self-appointed neighborhood watch volunteer is going to follow him in his SUV, get out, and murder him with his 9mm.

But yes, even we as privileged as we are can make a difference by clicking those links, making those calls and letting our outrage be known. This is even WAY more starkly unfair than Oscar Grant because Grant was actually causing a disturbance on BART and had a record (I am not saying he deserved to be killed either but those circumstances are a bit easier to fathom) because Trayvon was doing NOTHING except literally walking home. In the rain. With his hoodie up to protect him.

And a murderous, self-righteous thug following him.

I listened to the 911 tapes last night to get a picture of what had happened and it's the most unsettling thing I've ever heard online (outside of making the mistake in 2004 of listening/watching that tape of the young man getting beheaded in Iraq) and I actually vomited afterward. But I feel like it gave me a more complete picture than just reading the articles so it was worth it. And it will sound trite but Trayvon deserves people getting literally sick on his behalf.

It is appalling. So please do sign the petition and do what you can and don't worry about your own circumstances coloring whatever contribution you make. Just do it.

Thank you.
