I had to go to CFLs immediately because of the amount of heat the incandescents gave off.
That is not an uncommon cause of fires, if the builder didn't install the recessed lights correctly. (Also, they're frequently installed without the right sealing and insulation, so they're a common source of air leakage. Bad idea all the way around.)
There was a fair amount of variation in quality in the early years of CFLs. The current bulbs are better in a lot of ways.
What's the preferred light then?
Candles. Dim light hides a myriad of sins.

People seem to like the way they look in incandescent lights better, and the warm white is closer to that. I had daylight CFLs in my office and I had to change them to warm white. Everything was a little too clear.
SailAweigh! How did the GF pumpkin bread turn out? My taste buds want to live vicariously.
I like the LED candles. They flicker like real candles, they don't set things on fire, the batteries last a long time, and the candles last forever.
The next time one of my interior floods has to be replaced, I promise to try out one of the new CFLs.
I'll be buying LED bulbs from now on, no more CFL.
What's the preferred light then?
For some unknown reason my eyes are 3x as green under the CFLs so I am all for 'em. Oh yeah, the whole planet thing is important too.
Re: Online Dating - I thoroughly recommend my own method
cracked my shit up.
I think I prefer sunlight (sunset or sunrise) lighting, but I can't be sure. Candle light makes me feel like I'm going blind.
At one point I had "natural spectrum" bulbs all over the house and I loved it, so much nicer to my eyes. When I switched to CFL everything looked wrong for quite a while. I'll have to look for the daylight CFLs for when the current batch needs replacing.
