sumi, I would think that legally they have to give you 30 days. When did they tell you that you couldn't stay?

Art Crawl!!!

They told me - via a sign on my door at the beginning of the month that I had until the 28th.

Then they mailed me the same thing.

They have not responded to phone calls or emails.

Okay, a cursory google says that on a month-to-month lease in Illinois, they have to give you 30 days, which starts from the first business day AFTER they give you the notice (meaning, if they gave it to you on a Saturday or Sunday, the 30 days wouldn't start until that following Monday).

Unless they gave notice at the end of January, they can't tell you now that you have to be out by February 28.

t edit I posted that before you posted about when they gave notice. They're still shafting you on the 30 days, if they gave it to you at the beginning of February, since it's a short month.

Illinois is one of the better states with regard to tenant rights and responsibilities. You might need to check out the docs in your county, but there are fixed dates to which Tep alluded.

I need to double check when I found that sign. It's been stressful and my tendency to avoid and be in denial is not helping me.

BTW, I'm not necessarily recommending this, but in many places, it can take awhile to evict a person. So you might want to check out your rights regarding when they can kick you out. This may not work to your advantage since you will be looking for another place to live and they will probably want to contact your last/most recent landlord.
