In the realm of Please God, make my life not suck so much right now...Cagney peed on a rug at a local merchant's shop this morning. They are charging me $65 to clean it.
On one hand, I totally get it.
On the other, I'm pissed...pun totally intended...that A) Cagney has walked past this place a hundred times and has never done this so, why today and B) this particular shop hangs rugs over their sidewalk fence for display on the weekends, and I'm pretty certain this sort of thing happens a lot.
I'll pay, of course, but I really, really, truly did not need this right now.
Why on earth are you paying that? The rugs were outside, yes?
Who do they charge when a bird poos on one of their rugs?
I always thought it was gross, the idea of buying a rug that someone's had outside for who knows how long. And they charge a price as if it were new, too, I bet.
They are outside, hung over a fence so that they hang onto the sidewalk...public space, as far as I know.
My friend with a law degree, says they can't charge me for something they have not done yet. They apparently do the cleaning themselves, so I don't have any proof that it even gets done.
I'm a neighbor. My dog did do wrong. I just don't know what to do.
If the rug sells for around $65 or less, they could charge you for the "cleaning" and then just throw the rug away, which is what I suspect they're planning to do.
They have to clean the rug if they plan to sell it, otherwise the smell would give the stain away to potential buyers. Really, they SHOULD discard the rug and take the loss; are they really going to put a rug that's been peed on, even if cleaned, back into their inventory?
If you're gonna pay the money, you ought to at least get the damn rug.
I have a sudden urge to mail them some Nature's Miracle.

Knowing dogs, the odds are high that Cagney peed on the rug because another dog had already done so. If they leave it out, they can probably try to charge a lot more people with dogs.
That's what I said, that someone probably already had peed on it. He gave me an ugly smile and said that he was SURE no one else had done so.
Yeah. I really need to think about this.
I do want to be a good neighbor, but don't know how to do that without giving in to this pressure.
