I did a bunch of Christmas shopping at the amazing Unique LA marketplace (basically, all local and small business vendors--like Etsy, but in person). So fantastic! It's an annual event, and I will definitely be back next year. It's apparently the largest independent design show in America.
I then ran errands and spent several hours paying bills, balancing the checkbook, and doing odds and ends like filling out the paperwork to get Patch a license and enroll him in medical coverage.
I did not grade any of the 6-8 page papers I've had for 2+ weeks. Sigh.
I know you guys love the dog, Pix, but I blinked because I read that as "enroll him in medical college."
I dunno, Patch looked pretty smart in his pictures.
Patch is a good doctor name.
Whelp, finished up the last show for this tour, and it was a doozy. He'd had some rough ones this week, so it was nice to have a packed, enthusiastic house and a standing O to finish things off.
Raq, you have totally earned that margarita. I hope you got it.
Pix, I love those sorts of things. We have art markets here three Sundays a month, and there's a nighttime one on Frenchmen St.
I feel like there could be a Patch Adams joke in there somewhere about the dog. Oh well.
Nora, that is one heck of a weekend! That much fun is totally exhausting. Also, got your email and will likely backfling tomorrow.
My friend RI came over to have dinner, but ended up taking me for sushi instead. I have the awesomest friends, I really do. It was good to catch up, work has swallowed her alive and will continue to do so for the foreseeable.
There may have been more, but I cannot brane any longer. It wasn't the weekend I'd expected, but overall it was pretty good. Now if I could just get my hip to stop hurting...
I was reaching for a Patch Adams joke, too, but couldn't quite get there.
Although that may have had something to do with the celebratory Long Islands we just had.
Also, I then had to pretend to be sober at my parents house. I feel like I'm fifteen.

You may not be familiar with the Robin Williams ouevre.

I did mention about the Long Islands, yes?
You all are funny. He came with the name Patch. We would have renamed him Newton because he is inertia dog, but by the time we adopted him we'd already been calling him Patch for ten days, so it was too hard wired to change. I choose to think about the fact that he had a rough patch for the beginning of his life, but now he's in for a lifetime of happiness.
Bev, you made me laugh! In all seriousness, we have all the pets enrolled in VIP pet insurance after the $10000 vet bill year back in 2008 when Byron and Zoe both had major surgeries and hospitalizations. We are still paying off that debt, andI never want to be in that position again. It's awful to have to weigh financial solvency with your pet's life. The peace of mind the insurance gives me is well worth the monthly fee.
I did not have Long Islands. I did, however, have a delicious peach crepe for dessert tonight.

Hah! That's adorable.
I came back from Leavenworth with the roomie (not the federal pen in Kansas but the Christmas barfed on German Disney in Washington). It was actually fun and very put me in the Christmas sprinting. Also I got both a rocketship cookie cutter and a unicorn one!
And then I went bowling with the girl and made a dirty bet for the winner. Fun.
