Spike's Bitches 47: Someone Dangerous Could Get In

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

sj, I hope you made it to the gym. It takes time to build new habits. You can feel like not going, and recognize that feeling, and go anyway. Easier said than done, of course, as are most things.

I went. I feel awful tonight, but I went. I could use someone to maybe poke me to go at least three times a week, preferably four (not including Thanksgiving week when I will be out of town). The trainer was nice, but she alternated between being afraid she might break me and way overestimating my abilities. She walked me around the gym for an hour and showed me how to use all the machines I was interested in, and then said "so are you going to go work out now?" It took a lot of restraint not to say "fuck no, this was a work out for me." So, I did a quick circuit around the gym to make sure I remembered how to do everything before leaving.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Sending stay-safe vibes to you and your, Shir.

I feel like warmed-up leftovers. feh. I can't believe I have to grade tonight; I suspect it might not happen.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

sj, one thing that MFNLaw didn't mention is that in addition to the actual improvement in physical capability you can get from working out, there's a noticeable improvement in, well, emotional well-being.

If I don't exercise at all for a week or two (and I don't mean high-intensity, just walking the dog for more than 20 minutes will do), I really feel it in my state of mind: I get down. I'm far more cheerful and pleasant and optimistic when I'm getting regular exercise. It's something that I've noticed really clearly, and knowing that does sometimes help inspire me when I'm otherwise not into it.

Another thing that's really paid off for me is to have a workout buddy. Knowing that I'm meeting someone to run or climb makes me far less likely to blow it off. Frankly, it's the single most important aspect of my workout routine. I need a social component, at least most of the time, because if I'm not feeling strong or enthusiastic I'm still going to go.

Just a few thoughts, and I suspect you're already aware of them. But good luck with the program: I hope it's something you get both benefit and enjoyment from.

Burrell, feel better.

We're having spaghetti squash for dinner tonight with a sauce of kale sauteed in garlic, anchovy, olive oil, and lemon.

Yeah, I know this. I was doing so much better depression wise when I was going to PT, but when they stopped PT on me with almost no warning I freaked out and just stopped going, always meaning to go back, but then we started looking at houses and I just never got around to finding a new gym.

Always Anti-fascist!

I hope so...the furthest east I've been is DC(Didn't even go into Balmer, but that was before it would have felt like making Hajj) but an East Coast tour would be fun with loads of Buffistas. And all your stuff would seem exotic.
