GC,
congratulations woman! that is really wonderful.
Spike ,'Same Time, Same Place'
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
GC,
congratulations woman! that is really wonderful.
Finally told our realtor we were halting the search. I knew she'd be cool and she totally was. She was absolutely the best realtor we've been with. If you're in the LA-area and need someone, let me know. She's GREAT!
people who feel the need to point out that I have too many books
I would argue that they have too few books.
Dude, GLAM, you DID NOT POST THAT news here! I know this because I have been anxiously (yes, anxious) awaiting this news and did not want to ask because, you know, rude and all.
BUT SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Shane's going to be a big brother to tadpole!
javachik, you are the sweetest. Thank you, friend! I actually don't think I posted here about it, but I could have sworn I had. I blame lack of sleep and pregnancy brain.
Many, many felicitations and wishes for pregnancy awesomeness, Glam. That is terrific news.
It is amazing to hear someone loving their realtor. If I know anyone moving to LA, I'll certainly hit you up for the rec.
As for too many books...I finally had to self-edit...not because I actually had too many books, but because I was overwhelmed by the weight of them. Plus, many I just didn't need, like or want.
I kept them because I grew up believing that books are sacred in all their ways. No marking in books! No throwing books in the trash! All books must be protected from sun and dust!
Graduate school cured me of the first, at least. And, trying to sell old books didn't cure me of the second, but did make me feel super bad about leaving them on the curb. I STILL can't throw out a book.
All my book shelves are covered though. Must protect the words. I'm very Nack Mac Feegle/Dwarf, in that way.
In totally other news, I am not a woman who drinks. Okay, that's not the news, I'm sure I've said that before. However, right now, I'm 1 sheet to the wind and glad of it.
I've had the nastiest cough for several days. The kind that just exhausts you. So, I went to my trusty landlord/purveyor of liquor for a solution. Bless him, he had two airline sized bottles of a dark cherry flavored bourbon that he just gave me. Buying a bottle of something seemed wasteful.
And, can I just say, it has worked a treat. I'm not coughing as much, and when I do, it is softer and much less painful.
Three cheers for rot gut samples...it came in a plastic bottle...is that bad?
I don't think Glam had posted it either...but super happy to hear now! ;)
I'm irked that it will (did) cost me over $600 to fly home for Christmas...seriously, my brother can get a ticket home from Prague for about $1k! Seems ridiculous.
Glam, congratulations!
bonny, I never can throw away a book either, but the Goodwill takes them! And, my grandmother uses to give me whiskey when I couldn't stop coughing. Worked then, works now.
Yup, I give books to the local library, who sells them to support the library. Although this last batch, I took them to the neighborhood honor system library instead. It's the total Arizona thing. There's no records of patrons, or which books you take out, or which books are in the library, for that matter. You take what you want, for however long you want, and then you bring them back. Unless you really like the one you took out, in which case, you can bring them back a different book instead and keep yours.
I love the whole idea of it, and that it seems to have been working all these years. It's in the little community building. Half of it is the post office, and the other half is where you vote, and where meetings are held and stuff. Anyway, that's where the books are. There's a leash holder outside with a dog water bowl. There's a place to tie off your horse. It's the best thing ever.
One of the neighborhood used bookstores went out of business, but has opened under new management as a 50-cent book store! The owner takes donations of books, and if they don't sell in 6 months, he takes them to be recycled. He does check for books that are more "collectible", but still prices them pretty reasonably. (I purchased two of the Dark Shadows tie-in novels for $6.)
I have told myself I'm not allowed to wander through there every week. But it's like a treasure hunt of books!
