Second view of
Beasts...
still totally love it. It was fun to listen to the audience reaction to bits I knew were coming. You get so submerged into their world of the bayou, that the brief excursion to the "civilized" world feels very harsh and alien and sterile. There aren't many laugh points, but the ones there are take you by surprise. I will give a shaky-cam warning to those who are so affected. (I'd post all that in Movies, but I still haven't seen The Dark Knight Verbs so I'm not in there right now).
The first showing we tried was sold out and R and D were hungry, so I called Nora for a restaurant rec (like I do probably at least once a week) and we had a fabulous meal just across the street from where the theater is. We split everything; a peach/arugula salad with Steen's vinaigrette, a Turducken burger, a fried green tomato poboy, and deep-fried Oreos with ice cream and fudge sauce for dessert. AND we each got a locally made popsicle to go. Bit of a splurge, but oh so worth it. I had a bourbon blueberry sour and it was delightful.

Oh my God I want this monstrosity.

AND THIS ONE.
What place is this, smonster?

I think this was a storyline on SPN.
St. Lawrence on N. Peters, Dana. Relatively new, I think?
P-C, it wasn't massive or outlandish, but it was a tasty burger. And the Oreos were most definite YUM. Very light batter, like a tempura.

Huh, I figured you were probably by Canal Place. There's still a theater at Canal Place, right? Anyway, I will try to remember that restaurant next time I'm in town.
Apparently I do know everyone.
And I know all the restaurants! Dana, it's a new place that just opened a few months ago on N. Peters (near Tip's in the FQ and that ghastly Coyote Ugly bar) called St. Lawrence.
I'm glad the blueberry bourbon thing didn't make you sick! Some sort of saintly intervention, perhaps?
Yes, we were at the schmancy Canal Place theater.

Mini-f2f!! Yeah, it's nice to have a few decent, reasonable places to go in the Quarter.

Maybe! I shall pray to St. Lawrence from now on. Apparently I can handle some drinks with fruit, just not fruity drinks. It was pretty much bourbon and muddled blueberries, with a splash of their house sour mix.
I love the Canal Place theater! beer delivered to your seat, reserving seats ahead of time, Brocato's cookies to nibble on.
Also, I think the Killer PoBoys may have been open later tonight than usual, they've been tweeting a bunch, and it makes me think they're open. Gotta try them VERY soon. Maybe I can get down there this week.
