Spike's Bitches 47: Someone Dangerous Could Get In

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Thrive to spite them

For some reason I thought Miss Debbie Allen was in the remake so I was disappointed to see she wasn't.

Although in my recent massive rewatch of Grey's Anatomy THRILLED to see she was Dr. Avery! And hooked up with Dr. Weber.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

I am old and broke and lazy (and have a headlight out on my car), so instead of mambo-ing with a butch chick version of Johnny Castle, I'm sitting on my porch drinking white wine and watching lightning. No rain here ATM, but the breeze feels incredible.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

We were going to go have a picnic and meander around a state park but there's a 50% change of rain tomorrow so we may have some indoor fun instead.

Whoo! Indoor fun! If you know what I mean and I think you do.

Just kidding around.

I have no opinion about Steel Magnolias being remade. I don't care about the original. Am intrigued about the race switcheroo since it's all Southern shenanigans.

That sounds stupid and anti-South, but I don't mean it to be. It makes sense in my head though.

I am watching Deep Space Nine. I didn't have a very good day, had some unpleasantness with my boss.

I knew what you meant, Nora. And it was a play first, right?

I knew quotes from Steel Magnolias before I ever saw it, from roommates having it memorized.

I have no plans for tomorrow, except maybe accompanying R while she takes the kittens to the emergency vet. Mickle isn't doing too well compared to her brother.

Oh, I think in some ways, having it be all-black makes things way more awesome and relevant and interesting. And like I said, I would TOTALLY watch that cast do something. Just...I hate to see them do something that I will be hearing and comparing the original cast the whole time, y'know?

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

And it was a play first, right?

Yes.

I'm interested in the new one. I like the play and the original movie. I see nothing wrong with it being an all black cast. And, I like the women in the remake, so I stand with David on this. I am looking forward to it and reserve judgement till I see it.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

I kind of like the idea since we still seem to be so challenged in the area of colorblind casting as well as in creating casts that are truly diverse (I really do mean two different things, and if pressed I might even be able to explain).

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

On the one hand, I like the concept that if you change the race of the cast, it doesn't change the story. OTOH, it's sometimes interesting to think about how different cultures discuss and react to the same situation.

This. I guess I'm very much wondering how much it's different in ways OTHER than just the color of the characters. I mean, the preview was pretty much word-for-word, as I remember it. Will the rest of it be? (I was also cringing a bit at a few of the accents, but I guess that's not different from the original either and the crazy mishmash there!)
