[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Because books.

It really will, Kate, and you'll all be relaxed and happier. Breastfeeding is a fantastic thing if you can do it easily, without stress, but in my mind there's enough stress involved with being a parent, especially for the first time, that adding more unnecessarily is a bad idea.

And none of us deserving the cruelty or the grace -- Leonard Cohen

Kate, C. went through the exact same thing (the pain, the sadness, the guilt), and Mairead is practically driving at 23 months! (not really) But you couldn't find a happier, stronger, more well-adjusted (bossier) toddler!

Also I miss you!

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

Kate, if it helps, my mother also had to give up breast-feeding my brother because it was so painful and didn't even try with me. And though I do occasionally blame her for my allergies (jokingly)(mostly), 40-some years later, my brother and I are both thriving.

Here's to doing what's best for YOU, and YOUR FAMILY (because it's not anyone else's business).

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

She's already gotten the main benefit of disease resistance, Kate. It seems to me the important part is that she's a beautiful baby with two great parents who love her. The rest is just details.

amyth, how is Mairead pronounced? I love the name and I've always said it one way, but I think I'm wrong.

Ah! I was saying "read" as in "to read a book". I like the actual pronunciation, though!

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Biyi wasn't able to keep up with breastfeeding Ryan either. Needless to say, he's turned out pretty well so far. Especially these days, it's really a pretty minor thing whether you breastfeed or bottle feed. More important is that what you're doing works for your own family.

amyth! *tacklehug* I miss you too! When are you going to come visit us??

So much this. See also: why we are doing disposable diapers instead of cloth.

All the kids in daycare call her Raidy because they can't pronounce her name, so she's taken to calling herself that. Her latest (because two-year-olds are nothing if not impatient narcissists) is to say, "WHAT ABOUT RAIDY?" if we aren't getting to something fast enough: her yogurt, getting her out of her carseat, whatever.
