Good luck, askye!! Sounds like you have a really good chance of getting this. Hope they do pick you.

'Shindig'
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Smack him with a rolled-up newspaper?
I always feel guilty when the maternity leave/insurance/OccupyWallStreet type stuff comes up. I work for a big old corporation that has provided me with excellent benefits, a great salary, and flexible work schedule for almost 11 years now. So how can I complain about big business, even though I absolutely see how they play a big role in the inequities of our society? Is a dilemma.
Glam, I'd say accept that you work for an exception and if all big companies had the same policies we wouldn't be in as much of a mess as we are.
I've been debating whether to call the insurance company and find out how much - if anything - of my catarct surgery will be covered. Guess I should ... if they're not going to cover it, I think I'd have to cancel.

How did you know?
Glam, as a business owner I had no problem bringing my babies to work with me and having them sitting on top of my desk in carrier. And my insurance was paid for by my business, which was also me. Thing is I also drove myself to said office and was working with the baby at my side when he was only 7 days old because time off ain't an option when it is your business.
I also have no issue when my employees need to bring the kids or grandkids to the office because of whatever issues, even their animals on occasion! It is a pretty relaxed office.
Big business is too often problematic, despite everyone not working for a problem company. If it was always fucked, then we'd be just be worse off.
I'm so putting off checking up my insurance status with respect to deductibles, etcetera. I don't know why! It just feels more grown up than I can bear with being this week. Just way too much hospital, doctors, and health issues.
Remind me to back away slowly from Facebook arguments with wrong-headed people.
PS, if attacked, I feel fairly certain that we (Canada-we) would get support from other members of the Commonweath. Who also have militaries! Go figure!
Plei, that person is just impossible. Omnis is such a tolerant, open-minded person that he doesn’t filter any of his political posts and welcomes the debate that ensues with some of his very politically conservative friends. The person who is driving you crazy right now--unlike some of the other people who I disagree with, but respect--is neither logical nor very good at listening. He is a troll. Just walk away. That’s what I had to do.

Because of that! Those things affect you too, and people you care about.
It kills me how we have this instinct to feel guilty when we're treated decently, instead of just outraged that it's not the norm. (Or the uglier side of that coin, that we/someone should feel grateful and not make waves.) Ugh. I haven't figured out a way to excise those reactions from my psyche.

Oh god, still?
Yeah, I sent my one last link to CIHI's most recent study (and DIDN'T point out that, in addition to having a LOT of family up there, I also have a lot of family and friends of the family who are MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS, as is my mother, and therefore, the level of discussion and knowledge in my sample set is occasionally pretty damn good) and am calling it a day.
It's not perfect, but it's also not a disaster.
