Holy cats. My brother just called me -- he can use his phone, and his wife can visit him (with the dog -- for real) -- and said he's all settled in, full of Ativan, and a bag of saline because he was severely dehydrated, and probably vitamins b/c his body is fairly wrecked.
And he's got hepatitis. I shouldn't be surprised, but I'm still adjusting to the rehab thing. His doctor said that as long as he never drinks again, his liver should heal. I honestly don't know much about hepatitis, so I don't know if that's true. I asked him if the doctor said if it was hep A, B, or what, but he didn't know. I know hep C isn't curable, so I'm assuming it's not hep C.
So...I think he did this whole thing in the nick of time. Jesus Christ.
He probably has alcoholic hepatitis, not one of the viral ones (A, B, C). Hepatitis is just inflammation of the liver. See: [link]
Jesus. I'm glad he has excellent timing.
Steph, I've gotten caught up on this and I'm so glad he got to the hospital and he's getting help.

Thanks for the link! You know, I don't think I realized (despite the "-itis") that it's just inflammation, and can have various causes. Dur.
God DAMN, he's fucking lucky it hasn't progressed to cirrhosis.
The hospital he's in really does allow dogs to visit, so his wife is taking their dog tomorrow. That's pretty cool.

You had a brain fart of love.

Yeah, that was basically my reaction.
Wow, Steph. This is really a whirlwind, but an amazing whirlwind. It's none of it easy, but thank dog he has such momentum (and support--always support).

I bet they have terrific recovery records, as a result.
How wonderful. And what great news about his care and results.
If, god forbid, someone has to have such a crisis, it seems Bro-of-Tep did it right.
