Spike's Bitches 47: Someone Dangerous Could Get In

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I heard something about there being an Elvis (Presley) themed tour of the Holy Land ... including a visit to the Elvis Diner outside Jerusalem.

The Elvis Diner is awesome. It's in the middle of the desert, a while away from anything, and then there's this giant Elvis statue. Like, 40 feet high at least. And the diner itself is just bizarre -- it's trying to be an American 1950s style diner, but manages to get so many little things just slightly wrong that the overall effect is really disconcerting.

The past 24 hours, in the grand scheme of things, haven't been horrible in any life/death kind of way. Just kinda crappy. Yesterday afternoon, while working in the shop with student crew, my sister calls. Now I know, she being a tax preparer, if she's calling before April 16th, something isn't quite right, so I answer the phone. She's being vague and asking if I have talked to dad recently, and I should call him, but not letting on why. By the time I leave work, it is far too late to call east coast. I go food shopping, and get in just before they close. I get home around 9:50 at night, with 3 bags of groceries, to find the elevator not working again. Ugg. I manage to hobble my way up the 2 flights without damage to any of the groceries. So I decide to call dad while driving into work. Not the most optimum listening enviornments, but hey, it's a call. Yup, he's in Gainsville at the FL university hospital getting radiation treatments for Prostrate Cancer. Didn't want to say anything, cuz there is nothing I can do from CA and all. WTF! So I got that bombshell on my mind. And now the kids are driving me crazy at work, not putting shit away, so the shop is a complete mess. Ugg. Yeah. That's my bitching for now. Gotta get back to work. That fucking elevator better be working when I get home!

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Lots of health~ma to your dad, and non-freaking-out~ma to you, omnis. My dad just got the same diagnosis about a month ago and starts his treatments next week. If you want to compare notes (and get a Google summary without scaring the shit out of yourself by personally doing all the Googling), freaked-out adult offspring to freaked-out adult offspring, just ping me.

Aw, thanks. My dad is pretty hopeful now that he's got a treatment happening -- the doctors told him it was so early and so slow-moving that they'd have been content to just monitor it every few months for the next couple of years before intervening, but he hated the thought of walking around with that thing inside him. The treatment is 20 minutes a day M-F for the next 6 weeks, and is some experimental program with (so far) very few side effects, so he's expecting to drive in from treatment to work every day and be all done by his birthday.

Lots of finger-crossing anyway, but so far everyone involved in his care seems very positive. I'm hoping for tons of the same for omnis's dad, too.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Sending ~ma to omnis's and JZ's respective dads.
