I'm having a web color crisis.
I've redesigned my doggy lama website and am in need of a new graphical image. I love the old one, but moving away from godaddy means having to let go of that look.
The old site is richly colored in purple and yellow, with brown text. The new site, which is currently on a staging server, is much cleaner.
That poses a problem for the old color scheme. I'm keeping the purple, for sure. I wanted to use the same yellow for my links color, but as you can see, you can't see it!
Now I'm thinking about orange or green, but can't think which would be better.
NOTE TO ANYONE BRAVE ENOUGH TO VENTURE THITHER: There are many problems with the new site in terms of nav bar errors and a missing tagline in the header. My web guy, who is terrific, didn't give me the usual permissions, so I need to wait for him to fix it.
Beyond that, I'd love to get any thoughts.
I'm planning on seeding the blog with about 15-20 posts over the weekend, looking to a first week of Sept. roll out.
Bonnie, you could have links have a yellow background when you hover over them. You could also put a purple background behind just the headers on the right sidebar and make the text yellow.
Hm. Making the right column purple is an interesting idea, Ginger.
But, I'm more concerned about the links within the text of posts.
You can see the two colors I'm toying with are this one and this one to go with this purple.
Not being able to just get past these minute details is super frustrating. Save a marriage? Piece of cake. Graphic stuff for myself? Blech.
I should say that I just realized the colors I have chosen are the exact colors I already use for my people site.
Sigh. I'm so predictable.
I was trying to think of other color schemes for the doggy lama but I don't like the Dalai Lama's colors...to Washington Redskins.
Argh.
bonny, I feel you on the colors thing. Amych gently told me my colors were all wrong (she was right) when I first started and I think Jen and I spent about 6 hours tweaking colors.
I think I wore an old black tshirt for the next week...
And a thought...you should obviously go with what you like, but are you going to have pix of dogs on your site? Aren't they...er, dog-colored? Earth tones, I mean? I am obviously a color-idiot, but would more autumnal tones of green and orange go better?
Note: my Buffistas page background color is set to -- guess it -- medium violet, my fave color, and my monitor is NOT color pure, so the colors you showed show up as pretty bright on my monitor, so I could be full of poo.
Erin, you make a good point about 'dog' colors. And, there will be a ton of pictures on the new site...you can see them on the gallery and client love pages here.
Since my favorite dog colors are black and white...as evidenced by the little guy, the other colors are pretty much up for grabs.
I have no color comments, but ZOMG! Porterhouse for a bulldog! That is effing FABULOUS!
I am laughing like a loon.
bonny, what about Autumn Brights [link] or Dried Hues [link] The latter has some very nice muted tones. I think it's hard to make brights work on the web sometimes, not that I really know what I'm talking about.
Love the client pics!
Porterhouse for a bulldog!
IKNOWRIGHT!?
Porterhouse is a great guy...and quite the case. The barrel chest on him makes me glad for the bulls he will never fight.
I like both those palettes, smonster. I especially like the dried hues. I'm also looking at embroidery hues. But, sadly, text sized color just doesn't stand out well on a white ground. It's a bother, and no mistake.
