I saw somewhere today that some NOAA satellites may be lost to budget cuts, reducing the accuracy of forecasting dramatically, therefore probably increasing weather-related fatalities.

Anyone that considers reducing budgets for forecasting tools has never lived in a tornado prone area. I'm old so I had a lot of opportunity to be over the moon the year that we got 13 minutes warning. I thought that was space age technology compared to being a little kid and out of the blue (well black) being told to run for the cellar.

Cass go to um... I'll follow up for sure tomorrow, but hubblesite.org is a start. This hunt for supernovae is the CANDELS project. And one didn't happen in the past 2 days. Thankfully for me.

Also, it isn't something that dissappates. If it is a humungo local galaxy, all it it would appear as a brightening of some random object. If you didn't pay anal attention, you'd miss it.

The inference from "X is natural" or "X is normal" to "X is good" is called the naturalistic fallacy. While not precisely related to evo psych, the converse of this argument: "X is not 'natural' [adaptive, etc.]" thereore "X is not good" shows up all the time in certain arguments against homosexuality.

Did I mention that my dad had cardiac surgery today? They replaced his pacemaker with a pacemaker/defrib unit. Also, he passed out on the way home from a sporting event while my mom was driving. My mom thought he had a seizure or a stroke, but it's really just ventricular tachycardia.
