Natter 68: Bork Bork Bork
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Saferooms are seriously worth the jack. I made my parents get one when they moved back to the midwest, since my dad has Parkinson's and it would be difficult to get him down to a basement. It has been wonderful for them.
They were in it yesterday, listening to the weather radio. Then this morning they read in the paper that there was in fact funnel quite near them that didn't touch down. Mostly minor damage, and they were fine, but I was so glad they had the saferoom.
Anyway, glad for you and all my Wichita peeps that things are calmed down up there, Theresa. Safety-ma for msbelle and mac.
Aw man, I wish I had you in my basement. Or my garage. Safest room in the basement has a small window, but it is 5 & 3/4 (door into main section=1/4) sides of concrete/stone. Other safe would be the garage. Yes, an entrance, but stone/concrete bricks on all but the opening. Roof is actually 3-4' below the floor.
But I don't get tornadoes, really.
OK, guys, I think I need a sanity check. I got a call this am (referenced in the "above my pay grade" post) from a serious bigwig and told him I'd email him. Luckily he called before the morning meeting, so we were able to discuss it there, where it was decided that a) above my pay grade and b) higher up the food chain needed to respond to him, not me. Which took... a while. Even with me pestering them. Which annoyed me, but that's beside the point. I'm inclined to give him a call tomorrow to let him know that I wasn't ignoring him , it just had to go through the food chain, I couldn't make any calls on my own. I feel like I should, because I want to maintain the confidence of my clients, not just in me, but the whole team, that I was being proactive on our behalf.
sarameg, maybe somethine along the lines of "Good morning! I passed along (your request/issue )to Ann and Bobby, but just wanted to check back in and ensure everything is going smoothly.
As discussed yesterday, I am not the point-person for this issue, but I wanted to check in to see how things are progressing; ______ Co. values your business.
Let me know if there's anything I can do.
Best,
Sarameg"
Or such-like.
msbelle, aaagghhh! Vibing VERY hard for you and yours right now.
Seems a reasonable idea, but will it risk pissing off your higher-ups? Phrasing could be tricky. Something like: "I wanted to confirm that [higher-up] did respond to you, and that you got what you needed" implies to [bigwig] that you have trust/confidence/communications issues with [higher-up].
Won't piss anyone off, everyone got the emails when they were finally sent. I just want him to know the whole team wasn't ignoring him for 3 hours-just that in person discussions, alternate possibilities and non-cc'ed emails were flying furiously.
(also: clients is an overly formal term. It's a small and incestuous field. Which is why I got the call. Dr. So&So knows I work in archive, when he couldn't reach his usual contacts, I was next. But when Dr. So&So is on a supernova hunt in this world, all things drop off. He had awards.)
It's only Tuesday. Feels like an unending week. I might need to sacrifice something.
So true. I was also going to chime in with a goat. But a coworker might suffice.
If I wake up before 6, I might off myself. OTOH, out of the pool before the aqua aerobics, which means 2 lanes and serious waves.
These tornadoes are scary. Keep safe people.
I'm currently hanging out in K-Bug's dorm while she is at work. None of her roommates are home. Her graduation robes are hanging on the back of her door and I'm getting all sniffy already.
