That reminds me of the sci-fi trope of a character who has to abandon all doubt in order to accomplish something. Like the ST:TOS "OK Corral" episode, where the bullets won't hurt them only if they have no doubt (so Spock mind-melds with them or something to remove all doubt). Or when Morpheus tells Neo he has to let go of all his doubts in order to have his Matrixy superpowers.

That trope's always bugged me (even as a kid, with the above-mentioned Trek episode). Why is getting rid of al your doubt the key to some great power?

For Matrix, I don't think it was letting go of doubt, but that Neo had to believe (which I consider a different thing). Morpheus never had doubt, Neo did but persisted anyway.

Half an hour after rehearsal`s supposed to start and the leader isn`t even at the hotel yet. The pastor is waiting there to bring him here. Everyone else has been here an hour. By the time he gets here, two of the band will have to leave. Not off to a good start, new guy.

I guess I mean I envy certainty in some way. Because I know my brain just isn't wired that way. Even at my most religious phase (when I was 12), I once had a strong feeling I'd be an atheist by the time I was an adult. Which is what happened.
