Oh, meara - I want the recipe for the black sticky rice dessert.
I wish ita could have my doc. She kicks ass at making me feel better.
I have posted pics of the tournament over on FB. I only competed in one event - sparring, and came in 4th. CJ got 2nd in his sparring group (behind his training partner), 3rd in weapons, and nothing in kata (he was robbed). He also was on the demo team and they took first for the first time in years. Our dojo also won the tournament trophy! It is taller then our lead sensei.
The other thing that made the day extra special is that we had 2 Shaolin Monks visiting from China. They did a demonstration in the middle of the day and then taught a seminar at the end of the day. Both CJ and I participated in the seminar. It was darned cool.
Suzi, the only black sticky rice I found was pre-cooked (Annie Chung's at Whole Foods), so the recipes I found that said to cook it in coconut milk, I skipped--just poured some on, and heated it all up. Then poured in about...er...3t of sugar? Ish? To taste. And sprinkled on some salt (the sweet/salty mix is part of what I love about it). Pour a little more coconut milk on. Delicious! :)
Shaolin monks? That's awesome!
The thought of coconut bread makes me want coco bread (not the same thing, but I have never found good jamaican food here in Seattle--in DC there was a random ice cream store run by Jamaicans that had patties and coco bread in addition to the ice cream)
Awesome, Suzi! Coming in second to his sparring partner seems especially impressive. And Shaolin monk seminar!
I know I've made stuff with coconut milk but I can't remember/find any recipes. Bah.
meara, I said something about patties on OKCupid, and got a note from a guy telling me about a truck in a subway station...that I'll probably never be able to get to when they are there, but still. I have hope!
Sara, you look great!
Jesse, I get that the one I submitted to the tumblr isn't exactly news, but I thought it was a different sort of cute.
That is cute! And I already lost the random Christian follower, after a couple of pro-gay posts, I think.
I just came across this Dollhouse thing on Tumblr, and awwww: [link] sniff
I don't cry at length, but I probably cry pretty often. I thought that was just the life of a Supernatural fan, though.
Word.
I know I've made stuff with coconut milk but I can't remember/find any recipes. Bah.
The first time I used it was in a rice dish that sounds very similar to meara's. I ended up with the same problem of left overs. Pina Coladas sounds like a good solution.
Also, after checking, my insurance company made the mistake so I get to keep my adult card. Yay for small things going right.
Used coconut milk the other day with broccoli, sweet potato, pineapple, shrimp, onion, sweet peppers, curry powder, garlic, lime juice.
Today's recipe: Garbanzo beans, whole wheat pasta, sunflower seeds, harvarti, onions, tomato, salt, garlic, sweet basil, marjoram, thyme, lemon juice, olive oil, wine, touch of honey.
re: book to films for Hunger Games and the white font
the mutants
that was probably the single most disturbing thing in the first book for me and I am not quite sure how I will be able to look at that onscreen and not scream out loud. Wasn't The Dark Knight PG-13? I guess that's probably the limit in how disturbing a PG-13 movie can be.
