Because books.

Oh, ugh. I'm sorry the nerve blocks are so bad, ita.

I have told all docs for all procedures that I want Valium before any needles, and that I don't want to feel pain at all -- knock me the fuck out or give me the good drugs for the thing.

When I had to have my gall bladder out, the pre-op nurse couldn't find a vein to give me the sedative before they took me in. So I went in completely sober, into this freezing operating room, shaking and nervous and really unpleased. The anesthesiologist was good, though -- he had me out within minutes.

And with my C-section, they turned the epidural back on before starting (it had been off when they thought I could deliver on my own), and told me I would feel "pulling and tugging". It felt like CUTTING AND SLICING. Which I told them, and that anesthesiologist freaked and accidentally knocked me completely out, so I missed the whole thing.

The status is NOT quo.

I'm sorry, I got caught up in my hate.

ita, I'm so sorry you have to go through that.

Now tagless for your comfort.

I barely remember the exam they gave me after I had Owen. Whatever they gave me worked because all I remember is the doctor pulling on a glove that went up to his ELBOW and then nothing. So that worked out.

Owen just told DH that if he didn't drink beer, his breath wouldn't smell like a bar. The boy is 2 for 2 tonight.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Owen's killing me! Love it.

One of the worst things I've ever had to have done while I've been entirely un-drugged was getting a catheter. Holy. Hell. Granted, that was the beginning of an ugly delivery but damn. It was no good.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

My thyroid biopsy was one of the worst things I've had done. Big needle, no anesthesia at all, not even numbing spray, and the doctor kept chanting "don't swallow don't swallow don't swallow".

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm thinking of asking the pain specialist this time how much it's supposed to hurt, both during and after the procedure. And then suggest they take steps to work with my resistance to pain meds to actually have me out of pain.

My tolerance to pain is high. I can stay still throughout the entire block procedure, but I will cry, and it will not be quiet, on one dose. I will just be miserable on two. Are they really supposed to be getting us to miserable? And then leaving us for five days of misery? And then the next week, you come in and do the other side?

But, fuck, it's so much better than not having it done. Otherwise my shoulders and a cluster of trigger points, and I can't wear a halter top without getting a headache, much less a well-meaning shoulder rub sending me right off the edge into shoulder pain and intense headache. Last year's block is wearing off and I'm back at that point where I can only carry bags on the bony parts of my shoulder. No sexy halter into the summer for me!

Aw, they just had the "It gets better" browser ad. And THE THING is happening on Smallville. UNF.

God, I better juice up for tomorrow. If I don't eat, they...week before last they stcuk me more than ten times. I need a forearm line, dammit. Or for them to go into my neck, but they don't like to. But it's simple and never infiltrates.

8 more ounces before bed.

The status is NOT quo.

Typo, fwiw, my mom had what sounds like a similar oral cancer a decade ago, and her surgery was so successful that she didn't even need radiation afterwards, and it's never come back. I am thinking positively that it will be the same for you.

ETA ita, definitely talk to your doctor. Don't be strong--tell them the level of pain you are in.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Jayzus, Pix, that sounds like freaking torture to ND.

I'd have to punch me some doctor at that point.

Jilli! We found Scary Godmother.

Matilda was presented with the book.

Matilda: "Who's that bad witch?"
JZ: "That's the Scary Godmother."
Me: "She's a good witch."
Matilda: [dubious face] "Her skeleton necklace is freaking me out!"

But then we opened the book and saw how cute Hannah was and now she's enjoying it.

Random Futurama quotes to counteract all the torturous tales of healthcare:

"Morbo, how's the family?" "Belligerent and numerous!"

"The spirit is willing, but the flesh is spongy and bruised."

"You can crush me but you can't crush my spirit...Ow, my spirit!"

"Now, now. Perfectly symmetrical violence never solved anything."

brillig

The most painful thing I've had without anesthesia--packing of the sinuses to stop a ruptured artery. 2nd most painful--colposcopy, ie, a procedure in which a camera is necessary because pictures are needed of the inside of the uterus. A 35mm lens out at the vestibule, as it were, with a contraption to provide light, and the means by which the normally private uterus is persuaded to provide a view.

I liked the doctor taking the pictures, so I did not kick her. I didn't know the nurse helping with the sinus from Adam, and I nearly broke her knee.
