"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

From that thread, Allyson, mostly I was amused that you didn't correct his spelling of "fallible," just used it correctly in your response.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Allyson, you're made of stronger stuff than I am. I don't think I would have friended someone who'd push my buttons in that way.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

javachik, I don't know the same sorts of sports fans. And the press I saw was pretty judgmental of him, and he lost the requisite sponsorship deals. Tori and Lee Ann got relatively little press in comparison. But they never could get similar amounts. Tori may in fact have had her career boosted by the scandal, because what does she do outside of reality TV?

I also haven't seen Tiger reclaim the position in the media that he had before--he should have chosen a sport with playas, because that shit wouldn't dent a basketball player even if charges got filed.

Our wings are not tired.

I said he lost the PR war.

I follow a lot of sports folks and their fans on Twitter. I am just reporting the general tone I picked up on. It's anecdotal of course.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

eta: I don't know if it was confirmed that he was sleeping with escorts, but that it was rumoured, and I took it as a judgment against Tiger, as well as the women.

Deadspin reported on this in detail and it was a fascinating insight into the world of pro sports and privilege. There's a kind of circuit for high paid athletes where they go to these parties with women who've been brought in specifically as potential sexual partners.

But these women sort of exist in a grey zone between escorts and golddiggers. They're not paid upfront to have sex and they can choose who they want to sleep with. They're flown in to some place like Vegas for the party, and all expenses are paid. And if they hook up then they're treated sort of like a part-time mistress.

So Tiger had a number of relationships like that with women that he'd meet at these parties and then form short-term but continuing relationships with, buying them expensive presents and flying them around and treating them to the high life while they were with him.

These women probably don't consider themselves escorts.

Our wings are not tired.

All you have to do is a Google search of "Tigers Hos" and you'll see scads and scads of evidence of the women being degraded and Tiger being regaled.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I found "male slut" and Tiger in the same sentence. A lot. That article is hysterical. I was pretty sheltered, I guess, because that's the sort of stuff I read about him.

I'm not at all saying that people don't think promiscuity is more natural and esteemable for men than for women. Just that I don't think I personally know anyone that thought Tori was more shocking than Tiger. And I saw Cibriani get the same tarnishing as Lee Ann, within his relatively smaller sphere.

Ever send off an email and think "That was good. I should stop working now. Nothing else I do is gonna be that good."

It's possible I'm thinking wishfully.

And none of us deserving the cruelty or the grace -- Leonard Cohen

The tornado footage and statistics are just appalling, and boggling for sheer scale. How can anybody look at global weather patterns over the last ten years alone, the devastation and changes in surface terrain, in weather patterns, and claim not to believe in global climate change? That's some pretty fancy sand they're sticking their heads in.

What Bev said.

I have so much Facebook political debate trauma, I actually said to one of my friends the other day, "I strive to be as bland and uninteresting as possible on Facebook these days. I hope you've noticed!" But Allyson and others, I admire you for continuing to engage.

Bev, I'm holding my nails up to the pictures, and they look most like Mermaid to Order. I know it's not Austin-tatious, because I remember looking at that and thinking about it and putting it back. Thanks for the links!

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

...or let's look at Cibriani, who didn't seem to be treated much differently from Lee Ann.

I judge him more harshly than her, as he was the one who had children with the spouse he was cheating on. But neither of them retained any respect from me.
