Compare that to Lee Ann Rhimes or Tori Spelling (neither of whom I like, but that's beside the point). They cheated with ONE person, and then ended up divorcing and marrying the ONE person. They've both been shamed WAY more than Tiger ever was or will be.

Seriously? From where I was reading, Tiger got plenty of guff. I saw very little positive press for his behaviour, and the scandal was everywhere, on a scale that Tori and Lee Ann probably couldn't muster, because they just aren't that big. I don't think you can even compare.

Boreanaz is more on that scale, or let's look at Cibriani, who didn't seem to be treated much differently from Lee Ann.

The "slut" conversation suddenly has me wondering if there's a difference between being slutty and being a hussy (or should that be "being a slut", since hussy seems to be a noun?).

My mind works in strange ways.

Yeah, like that. People think Tiger was wrong for cheating, but not for sleeping with all those women. At least, that is the sense I have of it.

I also think it's hard to separate a whole lot of stuff from being a mistress of a multi-millionaire, especially when you're reputed to be an escort. You might not be being called a slut because you're sleeping with Tiger...it might be because you're a porn star, and people attach judgment to that.

eta: I don't know if it was confirmed that he was sleeping with escorts, but that it was rumoured, and I took it as a judgment against Tiger, as well as the women.

The tornado footage and statistics are just appalling, and boggling for sheer scale. How can anybody look at global weather patterns over the last ten years alone, the devastation and changes in surface terrain, in weather patterns, and claim not to believe in global climate change? That's some pretty fancy sand they're sticking their heads in.

My urgent best wishes to everyone, and everyone who has anyone close to them, caught in this latest upheaval.

Slut--as a word not applied to anyone in particular--is to me practically a synonym for lack of discretion, both in choice and in circumspection.

Allyson, you're made of stronger stuff than I am. I don't think I would have friended someone who'd push my buttons in that way.

javachik, I don't know the same sorts of sports fans. And the press I saw was pretty judgmental of him, and he lost the requisite sponsorship deals. Tori and Lee Ann got relatively little press in comparison. But they never could get similar amounts. Tori may in fact have had her career boosted by the scandal, because what does she do outside of reality TV?

I also haven't seen Tiger reclaim the position in the media that he had before--he should have chosen a sport with playas, because that shit wouldn't dent a basketball player even if charges got filed.
