Well, personally, I kind of want to slay the dragon.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Nephew update--it IS viral meningitis (the "good" kind). So, yay! However, it was caused by some OTHER infection which they are still trying to pin down. His doctor scheduled all the specialists to come at once, so they could share information and my SiL said it was just like House, only nice. We told her in that case, they could rule out Lupus.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

A school in Mar Vista (which is between Culver City-ish and Venice) has a waiver rate that's over 60% in K-1.

Oo, which one? I'm curious. Also sadly not surprised. I'm pretty sure many of the parents at our school have the same tendencies.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Good? news for your nephew, Scrappy.

Man, I just made a potato/spinach/mushroom cheesy casserole that was WAY more trouble than it's worth. Not bad, but nothing exciting. Ah well. I guess that's what weekend are for.

I also want to paint the basement door purple, and its screen door red. Maybe this summer. I need to rescreen and fix the screen door in a few places.

Primer is drying, I should be able to start actual painting after my laundry is done. I just need to remember to be patient and go slowly. Primer, I could slap it on, but this is high gloss, not as forgiving.

Timed my swim just right; as I was sanding the door (to smooth out where I'd epoxied holes- it worked AWESOME! You can't tell they were even there! Even the one that was dented in AND sprung outwards-took a ton of epoxy to fill it in, but the sander got it completely flat! I love my sander) massive lightning storm.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I hope you continue to get "good" news and clear positive directions for your nephew, Scrappy.

One coat done. I think the next will be in the morning. It's a PITA.

sarameg - Apr 16, 2011 4:52:25 pm PDT #3632 of 30001

I think I might go out and get semi-gloss instead of regular gloss. Won't matter since there's a base coat on that I need to lightly sand to undo some beginner's mistakes.

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

semi gloss is usually all you ever need in a home. hi gloss is...sort of a specialty sheen. you have to be really careful with it.

It's fucking picky.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Scrappy, hooray for "good" news, and vibing for better.

...I had to explain "fleshlight" to H. IDEK.

Jesse! I submitted a video to goodthings, but forgot to caption it. It's called "the mountain", if you can caption it before it posts. If it posts. Thankee.

Cash, sorry about the headache, but yes, good husband!

Sara, want pictures of your door (of course). Hi-gloss is a PITA.

I'll try and get pics up of the new "china cabinet". We got a Billy bookcase with glass doors off craigslist, especially to display my random cups and saucers, cream jugs, sugar bowls, and teapots. We've decided not to light it, as the lights I want don't exist. I had planned to put two place settings plus serving pieces of our really pretty good china (we do have a set, not just random magpie-gathered shinies), but until I got the plate holder thingies, I put my gramma's batter bowl, the brown betty with the downturned spout, the antique apothecary jar we found at a genuine apothecary in Edam (passing over the genuine Delft tiles covered in plaster and mortar they had in a basket by the door for a penny apiece. I had no idea from Delft at the time) the red-green-yellow pottery pitcher we brought back from Nurnberg and have used for eggnog every Christmas on that shelf. H objected to moving the "things" for the china. "These are more interesting."

Okay!

Seriously? I could have made a decent living as a windowdresser in a city large enough to support such a profession.
