That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Okay, good. I just give a bit of my background, give my contact info and how to go to my web site for info, go over the skills we'll be covering in class, and the major units in the class. We only have 8 minutes so I can't say too much.

I hope it's nice for the teacher to connect with us--and to put a face to the names.

I do like meeting (most of) the parents. Maybe 15-20% of my students have their parents there. The ones that show are generally in the pile of good parents. (There are, obviously, good parents who don't come, too, but the negectful ones certainly don't come to open house.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Parents: what do you want to hear from your child's teacher when you come to open house?

Quick rundown on how they're doing socially and academically. "Stephanie is a bit shy but she's got two close friends in Jessica and Msbelle. They play a lot of superheroes together. She's ahead of the class in reading but is lagging somewhat in quadratic equations. Also, I love her taste in Trapper Keepers."

an overblown libretto and a sumptuous score/ could never contain the contradictions I adore

Happy birthday, Emmett!

Yesterday when I took the kids out to the playground at work, I got a ton of mosquito bites THROUGH MY TIGHTS. WTF. When I swatted one of them, it exploded and I got blood on my new teal tights!

Our open house is run like a school schedule. The parents follow their child's schedule and meet in each class for 8 minutes. It's not a one-on-one conference with us. We do those in November and March.

NO! That's the worst. And a really really rude mosquito.

Because books.

The mosquitoes are getting nasty. We had a phone call from the town about West Nile and all kinds of lovely stuff.

That's the way ours was run, although we had a little bit longer than that in each class.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I mostly want to hear that mac is not an issue. Want to convey that I see myself as a partner with the teacher and really want to be contacted as soon as there is an issue. Also clue them in to some of the challenges with mac before they get behavior that to them seems unwarrented or extreme.

FYI - I know I have shared this before, but blood stains from your own blood will come out when rubbed with your saliva. PH something or another. go science.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Holy shit.

My entire department just got laid off, except for me. I'm going to be working for another group but I have no clue what exactly I'll be doing for them.

Holy shit.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Yikes, Kathy! I'm glad you were spared but that's a huge shock.

Because books.

Yikes, Kathy. I'm glad you've still got a job!

msbelle, I thought just rubbing the blood into itself worked, too? Something about the proteins?
