I've never heard of either thing. But I feel like I would have known about it were I a little older.

Do you know what the phrases "Deaf President Now" or "Deaf Protest of 1988" refer to, without looking it up?
Can't say I've heard of them, but could guess what they were about.
I had no idea of the Deaf President Now protest. It didn't register for me at the time, as I was pretty wrapped up in Canadian politics and ignoring US stuff. (Look, the late 80s were politically very interesting in Canada.)
I do wonder if there's a difference in the group of people who were adults in 1988?
I know about it, but mostly from reading Oliver Sacks's Seeing Voices, which includes a not-perfect-but-pretty-decent thumbnail sketch of the history of Deaf culture in the US.
And is that your fancy evening purse?
That is indeed! Stupid thing cost more than the dress, and I didn't even find a tube of Black Honey stashed in there last night. But it's grey and sparkly and I love it too.
ita !'s whole family is gorgeous.
We do okay. I once asked my mother what it was like growing up pretty and she said she didn't know. I was all aghast and offended on her behalf, as only a sentimental tween can be. She was supposed to know, dammit. I had seen the pictures.
Though the best, the absolute best, are her six pack pics from the 60s. And my dad's corresponding ones. They act all veneer of civilisation and shit, but they were pretty shameless.
Okay, I have just continued to avoid project from hell, and set up the Sharepoint repository for the project from cute. At approximately 1pm I will pay dearly for this, but I think I want to go out and buy a top to wear tomorrow first.
I have never heard of those Hil.

It doesn't register for me at all either. Then again, I was studying abroad until September of that year and all I knew is that I didn't want the former head of the CIA to be president. Of course, when the Senior Class Committee was discussing inviting someone to speak at our unified graduation that following spring, I had no idea who Clinton was either, even remarking after his eventual (amazing) speech that I hoped one day he would become well known enough to run for President. Good times.
Hil-- "Deaf President Now" was about the board picking a hearing person for president of Gallaudet, yes? I recall hearing a story about it on NPR. Was it really in 1988? Jeez, I am OLD. Or was that a different thing?
I have had meetings this morning. I am marginally hopeful about my new boss (he's kind of wacky and non-traditional, which is unusual in this workplace), and he wants to develop file management protocols (because we have none) and work flow tracking (because we have none of those either). I could use either of those as weapons in my long-running guerrilla war against My Nemesis.

OK- I have heard of this, but not at the time. I watched a special on Galludet on PBS.
