I hope you don't think that I just come over for the spells and everything. I mean, I really like just talking and hanging out with you and stuff.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

IT WAS YOU ON THE 405, ita.

Fuck, yeah. Be nicer to me next time, eh?

Any thoughts on whether you're going to apply at your friend's company, Consuela?

I remain impressed you haven't trashed her office while screaming your head off. Lordy.

She doesn't work for me, so I can't do anything about her. Frankly, I'm not sure who she works for. I can't discipline her, or even assign her work, although I do pass projects to her.

Happily, the new boss has announced a staff meeting this week (first one ever!) to talk about, among other things, "work management".

I'm gonna wait until October--the HR folks here are going to try one last time to bring me on. If it doesn't work, then yeah, I'll be talking to M again.

Pity, though: I would lose my alternate Fridays off, which I really love. It's not the only reason to stay, but it's a really good one.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

The last time I had the full-out "treat women like queens" experience was in this hard-core old-world Italian restaurant in the theater district.

The last time I had that sort of experience was a hard-core old-world Italian place in Vegas. My menu didn't have any prices on it. The grandfatherly Italian maitre de thought I was just precious.

hip deep in pie

I have almost gotten into arguments on the bus with men who've insisted on giving me their seat. A) If I'm going to be squished if I sit, I'd really rather stand. B) I hate sitting sideways, and sometimes it makes me bus sick. Why can't my "No thank you." be enough? Sometimes I sit down just because I feel like I'm about to be rude to someone who's being polite.

My CIO doesn't like Bob Marley and the Wailers. I judge.

And I judge you too, if you don't. It's a thing.

Because books.

There are people who don't like Bob Marley?

Not in my world, no.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Allyson, it occurs to me that women have always been imprisoned, wounded, and killed in wars.

Not to mention raped. Lots of rape goes on with war.
