I feel kind of like a dick. MRJ just emailed me.
You're not a dick--you are just too damn quick to take info and use it to (needlessly) beat yourself up with. Okay, I take that back, You ARE a dick, but only to yourself. You are far more wonderful than you ever give yourself credit for. Really.
There's more to come, Hil. Bulk of it is just south of here, slowly, oh so slowly moving north. This storm is an asshole.
Scrappy nails it.
Yikes, Kathy!
Also, Kathy be sure that you are okay. Don't assume that you always have headaches and can ignore the bruises only to realize several days later that you were big-time concussed. *cough* For instance.
AHEM, YES, THIS.
Dear Powers That Be, will you PLEASE start playing nicely with my people? Please?

Indeed! You might have something that shows up only later. I would suggest calling your doctor and telling them what happened. You could have some wrenched muscles, at least, that don't start bothering you for a couple of days.

Shaking my finger Cass-ward! Both my friend Tami and my sister were just telling me to be sure to take some Tylenol to take care of the aches I'll more than likely be having by the morning. My tongue is still a bit sore--I must have really crunched it! But, not as bad as when I was around 3 years old, when I almost bit the tip off after jumping off the swing.
I'd try to get $12,000+ out of them.
That's what I was thinking!
You're going to have a tough time finding a used car to match your criteria. The used car market is very strong right now because there's no supply, especially for good condition, fuel efficient, low mileage cars. I'd expect to pay about 2 grand more to replace your car with the same 2008 model that has 35,000 miles.
I figure I'll be able to get a car somewhere in the $13-15K range, but I'd be okay with getting a loan around $5K to cover whatever I don't get from the insurance company. My sister was just telling me that a used car loan will be more difficult/slightly higher interest rate than a new car one. I'm going to contact my bank and see what they could give me before going to the dealer after I decide on the car (if it's not totalled, which is something I'm assuming it will be but might not--I'll know by Tuesday, latest).

I was reading Carol Tavris' book on justification and confirmation bias, and while most people will paint decisions in the best possible light in order to justify themselves as being savvy and smart. People with depression do the opposite and will look for confirmation that they are worthless.
Kathy,
if you are willing to give a bit on wanting a used car, I think you should look for 0-3% loans for new cars.
Interest rates are fucking low and I bet you can get a good new car for $12-$15K.
BTW, I only negotiate online via email for cars. Takes all the bullshit out of it and I am much more satisfied with my buying experience.

Which explains a lot.

Oh, you'll be sore. Best case, you'll just be sore. I had the concussion (which I recommend not having) and wicked bruising that showed the entire seat belt pattern. Which meant muscles were strained.
I really only took Advil for the pain, but Flexeril for the muscles was a big help. And I refilled that a few times.

You're right! I'll stop by the library and take a look at their Consumer Reports ratings for new cars and see what's out there.
I paid $20K for my Civic new and I definitely don't want to do that again, but if I can find something as good or almost as good for just a bit less, that'd be great!
