Maybe try a bleach kit to put in some highlights and then toss a demi on top?

That sounds incredibly complicated. But highlights would be nice. I don't think I know what a demi means.

I always forget that the roots will dye to a different color. Blergh. My hair has been almost all gray since I was like... 18. We have really fantastic genes in that department, clearly.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Semi permanent. It "washes out" in 24 washes. Really, it sticks to the ends no matter what you do.

I am growing my grey in! FOR REAL THIS TIME

I strongly support this! For one thing, you'll save a lot of time & money.

I'll take a look at some of the dye kits with the highlights involved, maybe. It's probably too complicated for me, though, I've always counted myself lucky that I can actually manage to dye it myself. I have been known to accidentally dye my ears purple.

(Speaking of purple, I also accidentally dyed my hair purple once. It was amazingly awesome. Sadly I don't think Princess Cruises would be OK with purple hair)

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I finally signed up for Mint.com. Whooooa, so weird to see all that information in one place. Let's see what I can learn from it.

Yeah. I don't really know how I get away with it.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I started dyeing my hair in May. All of my white hair grabs onto the red part of the brown-with-red-highlights dye color and turns it all red, so that it looks almost burgundy when it's newly dyed. My mom and sis both said that it looks glaringly fake, and sis suggested I mix in a neutralizer, which I will do the next time I dye it. I'm stopping by Sally's Beauty Supply this afternoon to get the neutral color (4N to add to the 4R I currently use).

I found out from my dad this weekend that my grandpa's hair had gone from all brown to all-white practically overnight, when he was 43 years old. There was no traumatizing event, it just went white all at once.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Kathy, you might try one of those shampoos and/or conditioners made for brown hair. Towards the end of my dye cycle I find that my hair tends to get orange-y and I tone it down with the conditioner. You can buy it fairly inexpensively at the drug store.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I am intrigued by the growing in the grey as I notice it more and more. Mostly my grey runs through all my hair and just dulls the color, but I am starting to get that classic streak of grey at the temple. If I thought I could rock the grey streak I'd totally grow it out.
