To commemorate a past event, you kill and eat an animal. It's a ritual sacrifice, with pie.

For the pickles? They're sweet pickles. Dead easy: 2 parts sugar to one part vinegar (I prefer white.) I usually throw in a pinch of salt, maybe a pinch of dill, but not much. Heat until the sugar dissolves (don't let it get syrupy.) Let it cool (I've been impatient and it makes the cukes wrinkle a bit and not be as crisp.) Slice up cukes in your preferred shape (I do the teeny ones lengthwise because they do wraps well) with or without peel. Stuff them into jars and pour the solution over 'em and toss them in the fridge. They keep really well and are usually pickled enough after a day. I've occasionally tossed in some bits of red onion, but I like the pure cuke and vinegar flavor the best. Nostalgia, my grandmother always had them in her fridge.

Pair them with some rosemary ham, swiss and spinach or other green in a wrap. NOM. Or just eat them out of the jar...

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

After a fairly hot and cranky afternoon with this dude I need to stop seeing, I went to the movies with a friend and now feel 100% better! I love going to the movies. Also, The Debt? Excellent.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

Us open ended up being a bust. Mac could not deal, so hundreds of dollars for 3 sets of live tennis. I've sold the tickets we were going to use tomorrow. So so so bummed. Also pretty angry.

sara, I do almost the same thing with my cukes (when I don't mix them with yogurt, dill, mint, garlic, green onions, and golden raisins). Sometimes I'll add some of TJ's sweet and sour sauce to add a bit of a kick. I've got both mixtures in my fridge right now. NOM!

This evening I stopped by K-Bug's work and dropped off some sushi for her dinner. Then I hit up PetSmart for some cat things. I bought a pair of nail clippers and I need to return them tomorrow. Poor Noodle was my first victim and those things just mashed the nail. They weren't sharp at all. Grrrrrrr.

Also colored my hair all by myself. My roots had gotten horrible and I just couldn't stand it anymore. I think it looks ok.

Sorry, msbelle. Glad you at least got to see some and get to revisit old stomping grounds.

Suzi, I just use people clippers on all my cats.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Ice cream with the Flea Family was excellent. Casper and Dillo are both smart and adorable. If they harness that power, they could take over the world.

Oh, that's a shame, msbelle.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Oo Steph, I'm jealous. I want to have ice cream with the Flea Family one day, in no small part for the amusement value of watching our two girls play together.

I can vouch for hanging with the Flea Fam as a fully enjoyable activity. Emmett and I had a good time seeing them in Athens.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

Okay, if I prefer a less sweet pickle, should I just change the ratio of sugar to vinegar? Say half and half instead of 2 parts sugar, 1 part vinegar?
