This is a pretty stunning photo essay about childrens' bedrooms around the world:
Wow. That is amazing. Parents, keep a copy of this link to show your kids when they complain about how hard their life is.

The juxtaposition of the first two photos alone is worth the look.
Both the first two photos were heartbreaking, in entirely different ways.
Sarameg, have you checked BGE's outage status page and twitter feed? They seem to be doing a pretty good job of keeping it updated.
I'll admit that my kneejerk response is always to defend the power company, but there's no reason why an individual crew would know whether your power is out. They go where they're sent, according to a formula designed to fix the failures that affect the most people first. I know that's small comfort when you have no power and a refrigerator full of food.
Wow, breakfast potatoes. I love breakfast potatoes.
I'm on call Labour Day weekend, and I don't know how to fix anything. I don't even know how to supervise fixing anything. I don't know who fixes anything. I'm not sure what they think they're achieving by doing this. But there are only two of us reachable by phone, apparently, that weekend.
I woke up early and finally did my laundry this morning. While hanging a few shirts and lightweight sweaters on the drying rack, I realized how strange, but nice, it is that my shirts are no longer the same width as the drying rack. I now have room to hang my bras to dry on the same rack as my shirt!

Fat lot of good when sitting in a house with no power. I'm not mad at the crews. I'm mad at the company. They admitted on radio yesterday that sometimes? Their updates are flat wrong.
Kathy, that's awesome. Gotta love the little things.
Well, I just sent a cranky email to the transit agency, because my bus was three minutes early this morning and when it blew past me as I was walking to the stop, and I waved at it, pointing at my watch, the driver just waved me off as if the schedule didn't matter at all. So I missed my bus.
If they have decided to change the schedules, they should change the schedules, and not have the drivers unilaterally change them.
Time to finish the blunt and demanding email I started drafting to My Nemesis last night. "Great, you're talking to X? Please CC me on your correspondence with them, and I want to sit in on the meeting." Argh.
Wow, breakfast potatoes. I love breakfast potatoes.
This is why I sometimes give in and wait the interminable amount of time for Thursday omelets in our cafeteria. The potatoes are GREAT. I wonder if I could just get a side of them. Hmmmmm.
There's a New York yoga studio that does Buddha Belly yoga ... they turn away people who're thin.
I do believe the day will come when we look back and say, "Can you believe we used to treat cancer by giving people poison and hoping it killed the cancer before it killed the patient?" However, that day is not here, and just because it's an imperfect system does not mean that the answer is to turn yourself over to a Mexican clinic that prescribes juiced raw carrots and liver.
And leeches are making a comeback.
In regard to floods, my mother lived through the 1935? 1937? flood in Louisville - she remembers them delivering mail and supplies by rowboat.
