I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Trees are down on either side of my house, hanging off the power lines or just lying with the entirety of their canopies on the street, and the creek across the way is up to the neighbors foundation. I'm not going anywhere.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Mom's all hunkered down, and she says the power is flickering. The dog is freaking out--definitely because of the barometric pressure drop, and possibly because the little guy was a Hurricane Ike rescue. At least this time, he's not tied out in someone's backyard.

Stay safe, Juliebird. Not going anywhere sounds prudent.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

At least this time, he's not tied out in someone's backyard.

Good grief, some people suck. No wonder he's freaking. I'm glad the poor doggie got rescued and taken in by a human who cares about him!

I walked 30 minutes in the park this morning, as part of this new "exercise every day" thing I'm doing, and then ate a hearty breakfast, like you do. Now I am sleepy, possibly because I only slept about five hours last night. Why haven't I just gone back to bed? Because I put in contact lenses before I left and I hate to waste them by only wearing them for two hours. So here I sit, stupidly falling asleep in the comfy chair. Yeah.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Oh good lord, ita. I am so sorry. What a fucking mess!

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

ita, can you/do you want one of us to call your hospital ombudsman or client advocate or whatever they have? That's just not right, and needs to be addressed.

not your mom's socks.

But two others say they see me at Cedars.

WTF? Ita ! I'm hoping that it gets straightened out quickly.

We have power, and the trees stayed put. The river is up by about 10-15 ft, but we're well away from it, plus on a hill. So HKF and DH are getting ready to head to Ohio for a few days, activating travel plans that Irene (I keep typing Isabel) put on hold.

In the meantime, HKF has requested a nickname change, to HPF (as I'm putting Prisoner of Azkaban on hold for her at the library, this is not an inordinate request).

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

ita, that is such bullshit. I hope you are getting the treatment you need.

Irene was downgraded to a tropical storm overnight, but we're still under a flood watch/high wind advisory and have no MTA. Even if my office is open tomorrow, I have no confidence that I'll be able to get there.

Punishingly Intricate

Lost power at about 1130 last night. Stiill out. Call in to BGE. Hope they get here soon! This phone can't hold a charge for shit!

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

We seem to have lucked out, and didn't lose power at all. I guess we are far enough west to have missed the worst winds.

Compassionately intolerant

We have been so fortunate. One of my rubbish bins got blown around. No leaks. Decent night's sleep.

My neighbor has a HUGE branch down in her front yard. No damage and exit possible out the back door. She has had a plague of frogs in her life recently, so I was worried about her emotionally. She is, in fact, totally chipper this morning.

Two blocks away, a 60 foot tree came down across the street, totally pancaking two or three cars, but no houses hit.

Now that the rain has stopped, we may stroll a bit to see if anyone needs support.
