Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

There have been news stories about various politicians who are against "government handouts" who have, in the past, gotten various benefits from that same government. Like the protesters with "keep government out of my Medicare" signs.

call me jacki; zuisa is an internet nick from ancient times =)

People baffle me.

There's obviously nothing wrong with wanting to move somewhere so your children can reap the benefits of that place. But to do so while claiming to be against the very system that will be providing for those hypothetical children? I don't get it.

I think there's kind of a disconnect - "socialism" is bad, but getting the government to pay for education, healthcare, etc., for yourself and your family is good, so therefore it's not really socialism. Insane troll logic.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I think the "disconnect" is that they have no idea what socialism really is.

Probably. I know I get stared at like I've just committed some sort of horrendous crime when I tell people that I'm a registered Democrat but my political views tend to lean towards socialism. I'm not sure what they think that means, but it's definitely not "free healthcare and education and excellent social welfare programs, here, let me show you Scandinavia as an example".

Or "socialism" is defined as free healthcare and education and excellent social welfare programs for those OTHER, undeserving, people.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I think the "disconnect" is that they have no idea what socialism really is.

It's definitely a start.

And what about what's her name on Fox News who just came back from maternity leave, singing its praises?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

There is a fairly amazing number of people who hear "socialist" and think "Nazis."
