We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

I just got an email from my employer, basically saying we're out of work if the shutdown happens. No surprise there.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yikes, you guys.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Between the government shutdown and all the acquisitions lately. A lot of people are going to be out of work. Just when the economy was starting to pick up.

I wonder if that was part of the plan?

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Oh, guys, this is such rough news. I'm sorry it's all been so harrowing.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

I'm good if there's a shutdown, but our invoices won't be paid in a timely fashion. Receivables will be a mess, and I'll get yelled at because I won't meet my monthly metrics, but that's nothing in comparison to what friends and work colleagues will be going through.

I'm sorry for anyone who's going to be furloughed.

We'll be fine - it will get to be a pinch if it goes on for more than a couple of weeks, but if it's a day or two it's actually not a big deal, even a little break.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Don't know if I'll eventually get paid -- the agency paid salaries after the last shutdown, but its current budget is, uh, controversial. All of my peers seem to be ok with about a week's unpaid shutdown. I'd be ok with it too if I didn't have to also go to jury duty!

It's the best of both worlds!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

How lazy is too lazy? If I make ice cream according to the recipe but substitute soy milk for cow's milk (but use real cream) is that going to mess anything up other than jeopardise the flavour?

I mean, anything chemical?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I bet it's OK, as long as the fat contents are similar.

Speaking of lazy, I just made a potato's worth of chips in my oven, which was super easy thanks to my mandoline, and I might just make another one and call that dinner.
