'Columbo' star Peter Falk dies at 83

I want to see a cartoon of his casket with the lid slightly open and a talk balloon saying "Just one more thing."

Compassionately intolerant

I want to see a cartoon of his casket with the lid slightly open and a talk balloon saying "Just one more thing."

Somebody is totally going to do that.

Perfect.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

check out this paragraph from a RS article on Michelle Bachmann. I love how descriptive this is. I need to read the full article.

In modern American politics, being the right kind of ignorant and entertainingly crazy is like having a big right hand in boxing; you’ve always got a puncher’s chance. And Bachmann is exactly the right kind of completely batshit crazy. Not medically crazy, not talking-to-herself-on-the-subway crazy, but grandiose crazy, late-stage Kim Jong-Il crazy — crazy in the sense that she’s living completely inside her own mind, frenetically pacing the hallways of a vast sand castle she’s built in there, unable to meaningfully communicate with the human beings on the other side of the moat, who are all presumed to be enemies.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

If you go, you get the afternoon off. If you don't go, you have to stay and work.

We have something similar the Friday before the 4th of July holiday. Everyone firmwide gets to leave at 3:00, but our office also takes over a localish (20 minutes away) hamburger place, with lunch lasting from 12-2, so a lot of people just don't come back, but if you don't go, you're only supposed to take your normal lunch hour.

Our wings are not tired.

I like all of the 1/2 hour comedies already mentioned AND MODERN FAMILY.

Brenda, I can't say much, but I fear what you're going through is also going to be happening where I work.

Shallow 'Rolling Stone' Hit Piece is Just What Michele Bachmann Needed

Following the Palin blueprint, Bachmann plans on fully leveraging the negative publicity with her base: they see leftist attacks as a point of pride and an indication of strength.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

The NYT Peter Falk obit [link] is great.

Peter Michael Falk ...grew up in Ossining, N.Y, where his father owned a clothing store and where, in spite of his missing eye, he was a high school athlete. [He lost the eye to cancer at 3.] In one story he liked to tell, after being called out at third base during a baseball game, he removed his eye and handed it to the umpire.

“You’ll do better with this,” he said.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

When I think of songs about domestic violence I always think of Luka first. Weird not to see it there.
